The ground is in Rio Maior, a town around 75 kilometers north of Lisbon. It opened in 2003 and holds 7,000 people. The field measures 104 by 68 meters. Casa Pia has used it as its home since the 2023–24 season, its second year in the Primeira Liga. The stadium is part of the Rio Maior sports complex, which also has training fields, an Olympic swimming pool and indoor halls. The Portuguese youth teams use the complex too. It is a small, functional ground, so tickets are limited. The record crowd here is 7,051, set on January 25, 2025 when Casa Pia beat Benfica 3–1. Casa Pia Atlético Clube was founded on July 3, 1920 in Lisbon. The club is named after Casa Pia, a Portuguese children's charity, and many of its early players came from that institution. Casa Pia is nicknamed "Os Gansos" (the Geese). After a long spell in the lower divisions, the club won promotion from the Segunda Liga in 2021–22 and returned to the top flight in 2022–23 after a gap of 83 years. In 2025–26 Casa Pia finished 16th in the Primeira Liga and kept its place after winning a relegation play-off against Torreense. Álvaro Pacheco, who arrived in January 2026 and led that survival, left the club in June 2026, with Vasco Matos named as his successor for the 2026-2027 season.
American influences
Casa Pia has a genuine American connection at the top. The club is owned by Robert Platek, a US investor tied to the MSD Capital family office, who took a stake in Casa Pia and backed its return to the Primeira Liga. Platek also owns Major League Soccer side Real Salt Lake, along with clubs in Italy, Denmark and Poland, so Casa Pia sits inside a US-run multi-club group. The squad itself is built mostly around Portuguese and other European and South American players, with captain José Fonte the best-known name, so there is no United States player leading the side.
