Stadium information
Name:
Yankee Stadium
Capacity:
28,740 (in soccer configuration)
Address:
1 E 161st St, The Bronx, NY 10451, USA
Description:
New York City play most of their games at Yankee Stadium, the iconic baseball stadium of the New York Yankees located in the Bronx, where the club have played their games since their MLS debut in 2015. Although the stadium is a baseball venue, the field is adapted for soccer, creating a distinctive layout, which is why only part of the capacity is opened, with fans confined to a single side.
When the Yankees' schedule clashes with the MLS season, some NYC FC games are moved to Citi Field, in Queens, so it's important to check the venue before buying tickets.
For years the club has also been working on what will be its permanent home, Etihad Park in Queens, the first stadium built specifically for soccer in New York City, which is expected to be ready by the summer of 2027.
The best way to get to Yankee Stadium
Once you have your tickets for a New York City game, you'll need to work out how to get to the stadium. Here are a few options to help you find the one that suits you best.
By subway
The B, D and 4 subway lines stop at 161st Street–Yankee Stadium station, right at the gates of the venue, making it the most widely used and most recommended option.
In addition, the Metro-North Yankees–East 153rd Street station is just a few meters from the stadium and runs special trains on matchdays from Grand Central Terminal, making it a great option if you're coming from the counties north of the city or from Connecticut.
By car
Since the stadium is right in the middle of the Bronx and traffic in New York is what you'd expect, the general recommendation is to use public transport. However, if you do choose this option, there are several car parks around the stadium, though almost all of them work on an advance online booking basis, with high prices for the biggest games.
Yankee Stadium guide
Because Yankee Stadium is a baseball venue adapted for soccer, the field is laid out over the infield and only part of the capacity is opened, so its layout doesn't follow that of a conventional venue and isn't organized into side stands and ends like any other stadium. This means the experience varies a lot depending on which seats you choose, and that's where we come in, as we have multiple tickets for New York City's games.
The seating layout tries to place fans on every side of the field, although there are areas where that isn't possible due to how far they'd be from the action.
The Gate 2 section covers most of one side stand, where the premium suites are located, while the end it extends into is home to the supporters' group.
In the opposite corner is the Gate 6 section, which covers the other end, where the away fans and another small premium suite are located. This section only reaches halfway along the other side stand, leaving the entire Gate 8 corner without fans. Between these two sections, another premium area is also set up in the middle of the stand. And to avoid the feeling that the fans are too far away, or that the other side stand is empty, a VIP area is placed alongside the benches.
In each section that's opened up, you'll find premium areas, either at a mid-level height or lower down, closer to the field, along with a regular area with tickets priced differently depending on the exact location. Finally, the cheapest tickets are found in the upper tier, which wraps around almost the whole of both sections, leaving free only the corner that isn't opened, where the scoreboard is located.

Other information
New York City FC was founded in 2013 and made its MLS debut in 2015 as the league's 20th franchise, and is the first club in the league based within one of New York City's five boroughs. The team's sky blue and white colors come from belonging to the same ownership group as Manchester City, the City Soccer Group.
In its early years the club made a big media splash thanks to the signings of players such as David Villa, Andrea Pirlo and Frank Lampard, but its greatest moment came in 2021, when it won its first MLS Cup.
New York City FC honors
New York City don't have a great honors list, with their trophy cabinet holding the MLS Cup, won in 2021, and the Campeones Cup, a title contested against the champions of Mexican soccer, won in 2022. However, they're confident more silverware is on the way, given their almost permanent presence in the playoffs, which means top-level games every season. Tickets for New York City's games, from the cheapest to the most exclusive, are available on Livefootballtickets.com.
Rivalries
The Hudson River Derby vs New York Red Bulls
The Hudson River Derby against New York Red Bulls is the big game on the calendar and one of the most intense rivalries in the whole of MLS, pitting the club based within New York City's five boroughs against the one based on the other side of the Hudson River, in New Jersey — a geographical distinction enough to fuel a fierce footballing rivalry over which club can claim to be the city's true representative.
