Stadium information
Name:
PayPal Park
Capacity:
18,000
Address:
1123 Coleman Avenue, San Jose, CA 95110, USA
Description:
San Jose Earthquakes spent much of their history playing in borrowed stadiums, until in 2015 they unveiled their own home right next to the city's international airport. PayPal Park has one of the steepest stands in the league, a design intended to bring fans closer to the field and concentrate the noise. It's also home to the largest outdoor bar of any stadium in North America, located in one of the venue's corners.
The best way to get to PayPal Park
Once you have your tickets for a San Jose game, you'll need to work out how to get to the stadium. Here are some options to help you decide which one suits you best.
By light rail
Race Street station, on the VTA's Orange Line, is a few minutes' walk from the stadium, making it the most recommended option if you're coming from downtown San Jose or the rest of the valley.
By train
If you're coming from San Francisco or elsewhere in the Bay Area, San Jose Diridon station is about a twenty-minute walk from the stadium, and you can reach it via Caltrain, Amtrak and ACE services.
By bicycle
The Guadalupe River Trail runs very close to the stadium and connects the venue with the city center, so cycling there is a very convenient option.
PayPal Park guide
PayPal Park is a compact stadium with very steep stands, designed to bring fans closer to the field. It also has an entire section that's an open-air terrace, making it a small but very distinctive stadium. That's where we come in, since we have tickets for every Earthquakes game.
The side stands at PayPal Park are practically symmetrical, with the only difference — and the reason you could call one the main stand — being that the benches sit on the west side, behind which there's a premium seating section. This side also has more premium areas and suites, though these are spread throughout the venue. On the opposite side, next to the corner with the video scoreboard, there's a section set aside for away fans. Being the side stands, both sections offer the best view of the field.
The south end is the Supporters Terrace, the section where the club's supporters' groups are based, where the San Jose Ultras occupy sections 117 and 118 in full, alongside other supporters' groups. It's a section very close to the field and is general admission, so you have to stand.
North End
The north end is probably the most distinctive part of the stadium. This section is also home to a small supporters' group. But it owes its popularity to the North Terrace, an open standing area where you'll find the Scoreboard Bar, the largest outdoor bar in North America, known as LOBINA (Longest Outdoor Bar In North America).
Which zone should you choose?
It's important to be able to make the best decision when booking your Earthquakes tickets. To help with that, we've put together this short table comparing the options based on your preferences, so you can enjoy your experience to the fullest.
| Priority | Best zone | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Best atmosphere | South End | This is the stand where the San Jose Ultras are based, making it the loudest section throughout the game |
| Best visibility | Sides | As in any stadium, the side stands offer the best view of the whole field |
| First visit | North End | Heading to the North Terrace is probably this stadium's signature experience, making it the most recommended option |
| Families with children | North End or East Side | The East Side offers a more relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere. But what makes the North End special is that it lets you move around the whole terrace |
| Tight budget | South End | This is the section with the most affordable tickets, but if you'd rather avoid the supporters' group, look for tickets in the corner areas |
| See the players up close | West Side | These are the seats closest to the benches and the warm-up area |
| Maximum comfort and exclusivity | West Side | This section is home to the premium areas, with the best services in the stadium |

Other information
The name Earthquakes dates back to 1974, a reference to the earthquakes that have marked the history of Northern California. The current franchise is one of MLS's ten founding clubs from 1996, though the club went through an unusual episode in 2006, when ownership relocated the team to Houston and San Jose was left without a franchise, until in 2008 the league returned the name and history to the city with a refounded club.
In the league's early years, San Jose won two MLS Cup titles in three seasons, while in 2012 they broke the competition's points record.
