Stadium information
Name:
Mercedes-Benz Stadium
Capacity:
71,000 (reduced capacity for most MLS games)
Address:
1 AMB Drive NW, Atlanta, GA 30313, United States
Description:
Mercedes-Benz Stadium has been Atlanta United's home since 2017 and is shared with the Atlanta Falcons of the NFL. It is regarded as one of the most impressive stadiums in the world thanks to its retractable roof, which mimics a camera lens, and its striking circular screen that wraps around the entire upper level. Located in downtown Atlanta, it holds more than 70,000 spectators, although normally only the lower bowl is opened, with the full stadium used only for the biggest games, reaching attendance figures no other team in the league can match.
The best way to get to Mercedes-Benz Stadium
Once you have your tickets for an Atlanta game, you will need to figure out how to get to the stadium. Here are some options so you can get an idea of which one works best for you.
By rail
Vine City and GWCC/CNN Center stations, on the MARTA blue and green lines, are less than a ten-minute walk from the stadium, connecting directly with the airport and the rest of the city, which makes this the most recommended option.
On foot
From downtown Atlanta, the stadium is within walking distance of most hotels in the area, passing through Centennial Olympic Park. This walk can be a great option to enjoy the pregame atmosphere, as the area fills up with local fans.
By car
If you choose this option, keep in mind that traffic in the area gets pretty complicated, especially for games with full capacity, despite the direct access from the freeway.
Mercedes-Benz Stadium guide
Mercedes-Benz Stadium is the largest venue in MLS and its configuration changes depending on how much interest each game generates, so the experience depends a lot on the area you choose. That's where we come in, as we have tickets for every Atlanta game. The stadium has four sectors, like any other, but its layout matters more in terms of levels or heights.
On both sidelines the view of the whole field is better, however, as this is a stadium designed primarily for the NFL, some of the seats may have obstructed views. The same applies to the sections behind the goals, which can be a long way from certain areas of the field.
All around the stadium you will find VIP and premium areas. Most of them are located on the sidelines, in the lower section, where you will have access to private clubs with better food options and better seats.
As for the type of experience each level offers, the best VIP clubs in the stadium are at field level. Just above is the lower level, which also has some premium clubs, but even if you are not in one of them, this section is ideal for following the action up close. On the sidelines the visibility is excellent, while behind the goals, where seats tend to be cheaper, there are areas of the field you might not be able to see.
On the mezzanine level you will be high enough to follow the whole game in detail and close enough to feel involved, especially in the central part of the sidelines. On this level, as well as on the upper level, there is a raised walkway-style bridge at the southeast end that links the two corners of the venue. It is an area from which you can watch the game standing up.
Finally, there is the upper level, where seats are a little cheaper, but you may feel pretty far from the field, as between each of the levels there is a further level given over to suites, for those who want a more exclusive experience, and to the press box. Throughout the venue, no matter which level, the amenities are first class and you will find bars, restaurants and stores in whichever section you choose.
Atlanta United information
Current head coach:
Gerardo "Tata" Martino
Current captain:
Miguel Almirón
MLS position last season:
14th, Eastern Conference
Other information
Atlanta United were founded in 2014 and made their MLS debut in 2017 with an impact nobody had predicted. From the very first game the city responded on a massive scale, breaking historic attendance records in the league and averaging as many as 50,000 spectators per game.
In only their second season, the team coached by Gerardo Martino and led by Josef Martínez and Miguel Almirón won the MLS Cup. After a few quieter years, the club has turned once again to the Argentine coach to recover the prominence of those early campaigns.
Atlanta United honors
Although their first trophies arrived very early on, Atlanta do not have a large trophy case in terms of numbers. They can boast the MLS Cup won in 2018, in only their second season in the league, the US Open Cup won in 2019 and the Campeones Cup of that same year against the Mexican champions. Tickets for Atlanta games, from the cheapest to the most exclusive, are available at Livefootballtickets.com.
Rivalries
The matchup against Orlando City is the club's most established rivalry, pitting the two biggest cities in the southeastern United States against each other.
