Stadium Information
Name:
Bluenergy Stadium (formerly Stadio Friuli / Dacia Arena)
Capacity:
approximately 25,144 seats
Address:
Via Anna Fränk, 33100 Udine, Italy
Club:
Udinese Calcio
Description:
The stadium opened in 1976 with an initial capacity of up to 41,652 spectators, set within a ground that also had an athletics track around the pitch. During an extensive renovation, three of the four stands were demolished and rebuilt much closer to the pitch, the athletics track disappeared completely, and only the distinctive "Arco" stand to the west was kept. On 17 January 2016, the renovated stadium was officially reopened in a match against Juventus. Not only the capacity, now considerably reduced but far more modern at around 25,144 spectators, also the closeness to the pitch makes this stadium one of the most intense experiences in all of Serie A. You will feel how close you are to the action as soon as you take your seat for the first time.
The city of Udine granted the club a 99-year lease on the stadium in 2013, giving Udinese long-term planning security to keep investing in the infrastructure. Not only the modern renovation, also its central location, a short walk from the historic centre of Udine, makes a matchday here a special experience.
Best Ways to Reach the Bluenergy Stadium
Once your Udinese tickets are booked, it is time to work out how to get to the stadium. The Bluenergy Stadium sits right in the centre of Udine, a short walk from the historic centre. Not only by train, also by bus, bicycle and car, you can reach the stadium without much trouble. It can be a bit of stressful to plan the route the first time, but once you have done it, you will get used to it quickly. Here are your options from central Udine:
By Train
Udine's central station sits on major lines from Venice, Trieste and Austria, and is well served. From there you can reach the Bluenergy Stadium in about 20 to 25 minutes on foot or within a few minutes by bus.
By Bus
Several city bus lines connect central Udine with the area around the Bluenergy Stadium, with stops just a few minutes' walk from the main entrances. Extra services run on matchdays, both towards the stadium before kick-off and back into the city centre after the final whistle. Depending on traffic, the ride from the city centre only takes a few minutes. During the bigger Serie A fixtures, when the stadium is close to full, the return buses tend to fill up quickly right after the final whistle, so it helps to build in a little extra time for that.
By Bicycle
Udine is a compact, bike-friendly city, and the ride from the city centre to the Bluenergy Stadium is largely flat and takes about 15 to 20 minutes. You will find bike racks near the stadium.
By Car
Udine is well served by the A23 motorway, which connects the city to Austria to the north and to the A4 towards Venice and Trieste to the south. From the city centre, the Bluenergy Stadium is only a few minutes away. Drivers arriving via the motorway should follow signs towards the city centre, then signs towards the stadium. Paid and free parking spaces can be found in the areas around the ground, although space is limited on big matchdays. After the final whistle, leaving the area can be a bit of stressful. Not only around the stadium itself, also on the approach roads, traffic can stay heavy for a while after a big match. Those who arrive early tend to get the best parking spots and an easier exit once the game is over.
The Stands of the Bluenergy Stadium
The Bluenergy Stadium is divided into four main areas: the Curva Nord, the Curva Sud, the Tribuna Est and the Tribuna Ovest, the latter also known as the "Arco", the only original section kept after the renovation. During Udinese home matches, the Curva Nord is the section reserved for the club's own supporters, while away fans are traditionally placed in the Curva Sud, with their own access and parking area. You will never feel like you are watching the match from far away, whichever stand you are seated in, since the compact build after the renovation keeps even the furthest seats close to the action. This is also one of the reasons a matchday at the Bluenergy Stadium feels so special. Not only the home end, also the away section sits close enough to make you feel part of the match.
Curva Nord
The Curva Nord is the section reserved for the club's own supporters, the area where Udinese's most loyal fans gather behind the goal for the full 90 minutes. You will find the best atmosphere in the stadium here, with a constant wall of noise, flags and chanting when the "Zebrette" play at home. It can be a bit of stressful for someone who has never experienced an Italian curva before, all that noise so close by, but if you want to feel what Udinese really means to the whole Friuli region, you will have quite a special experience in the Curva Nord.
Curva Sud
On the opposite side of the pitch sits the Curva Sud, where the away section is located during Udinese home matches. Fans of the visiting team travelling to the Bluenergy Stadium for an Udinese match are housed here, in a clearly separated section with its own access. The view from this end is good, with a clear line of sight across the whole pitch and towards the Curva Nord in the distance. Not only the distance, also the viewing angle from this section is a little sharper than from the side stands, so it helps to bring good binoculars if you want to follow every detail.
Tribuna Est
The Tribuna Est runs along one side of the pitch, close to the grass with a direct view of the halfway line. From here you get one of the best viewing angles in the whole stadium, very close to the action and to the substitutes' benches. Tickets here are among the most sought-after in the ground, precisely because the closeness to the pitch is so exceptional.
Tribuna Ovest (Arco)
Directly opposite the Tribuna Est sits the Tribuna Ovest, known as the "Arco", home to the stadium's boxes and hospitality areas. As the only original section kept from the old Stadio Friuli, this area still carries a fragment of the club's history. From here you get a very good overall view of everything happening on the pitch, sheltered from the sun and the occasional rain. Also this stand, thanks to its closeness to the exits, is a popular choice for families and first-time visitors. Also for a group visiting Udinese for the first time, this stand is usually a comfortable and relaxed choice.
Which Stand Should You Choose?
We have created this table so you can compare the four sections of the Bluenergy Stadium at a glance. Look at what matters most to you, and you will find the right section.
| Priority | Best Stand | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Best atmosphere | Curva Nord | Udinese's own section, flags and chants, loudest part of the stadium for the full 90 minutes |
| Best view | Tribuna Est | Direct view of the halfway line, very close to the pitch and substitutes' benches |
| First visit | Tribuna Ovest (Arco) | Covered, good overall view, easy access and exit |
| Families with children | Tribuna Ovest (Arco) | Calmer than the Curva Nord, comfortable seats, sheltered from the weather |
| Small budget | Curva Nord, upper tier | Cheaper than the main stands, with a full view of the pitch |
| Singing and standing | Curva Nord | Expect to stand, sing and join the ultras for the full 90 minutes |
| Away supporters | Curva Sud (away section) | Separate entrance, full view of the pitch and of the Curva Nord in the distance |
| Premium comfort | Tribuna Ovest, boxes | Padded seats, best stadium service, direct access to the main stand |
About Udinese Calcio
Current head coach:
Kosta Runjaic
Current captain:
Jesper Karlström
Last season's finish:
10th place, Serie A 2025-26
Club History
Udinese was founded on 30 November 1896, initially as a general sports club with gymnastics and fencing sections; the independent football section was set up on 5 July 1911. After decades in the lower Italian divisions, the club gradually established itself in Serie A and has ranked for generations among the most tradition-rich clubs of northern Italy. Between 1983 and 1985, Zico, one of the greatest Brazilian footballers in history, drew international attention to the Friuli club.
On 28 July 1986, entrepreneur Giampaolo Pozzo took control of the club, which started the season with a points penalty over the Totonero betting scandal, but went on to become, under the Pozzo family, a model club in Serie A. Udinese's approach to recruitment, signing young talent from around the world for relatively modest fees, developing them, and then selling them on for significant profit, earned the club international recognition. After 39 years, this era came to an end in May 2025, when the Pozzo family sold the club for an amount between €150 and €180 million to the American investment fund Guggenheim Partners. In the 2025-26 season, the first full season under the new ownership structure, Udinese, led by head coach Kosta Runjaic, finished in a solid 10th place and were knocked out in the round of 16 of the Coppa Italia.
Udinese and Friuli
Udinese is the only club from the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region with a permanent presence in Serie A, and therefore carries the sporting identity of the entire region. Not only the geographic closeness to Austria and Slovenia, also Friuli's own distinct cultural identity within Italy shapes the particular atmosphere around the team. On matchdays, the streets around the Bluenergy Stadium fill with supporters in black and white, the distinctive zebra-striped shirt pattern that gave the club its nickname "Zebrette".
A visit to the historic centre of Udine, with its Venetian-style arcades and its castle, is also popular among many away supporters before or after the match. If you want to spend a quiet afternoon before the match, many supporters combine the stadium visit with a short stroll through the historic centre.
Famous Players
Antonio Di Natale is the undisputed icon of Udinese, the club's all-time top scorer with 191 goals and long-time captain as well, known for his loyalty to the club throughout his career. Zico brought international attention to Friuli in the 1980s, and Oliver Bierhoff defined the historic 1997-98 season as the league's top scorer. Alexis Sánchez and David Pizarro also emerged at Udinese before moving on to bigger European clubs. Not only these names from the past, also captain Jesper Karlström has secured himself a permanent place in the club's recent history.
Udinese Honours and Titles
Udinese have not yet won a major national title, but can point to one of the most stable records in all of Serie A in Italy. The best finish in the club's history was 3rd place in the 1997-98 season under head coach Alberto Zaccheroni, with Oliver Bierhoff as the league's top scorer with 27 goals, which earned the club qualification for the UEFA Cup. It is a remarkable record for a club from a city of around 100,000 people, firmly established in Serie A for decades and one that continues to regularly produce players of international standing. Affordable and premium tickets for Udinese in Serie A and Coppa Italia are now available on Livefootballtickets.com.
Greatest achievements:
Best Serie A finish: 3rd place, 1997-98 season, several UEFA Cup and Champions League qualifying round appearances
Best Serie A finish:
3rd place, 1997-98 season with Oliver Bierhoff as the league's top scorer (27 goals)
Landmark match:
3-0 away win over AC Milan on 11 April 2026 (own goal by Davide Bartesaghi, goals by Jurgen Ekkelenkamp and Arthur Atta)
Udinese Rivalries
Main Rivalry
The Derby del Friuli against Triestina
The most traditional rivalry in Udinese's world is the Derby del Friuli, also known as the Derby del Nord-est, against Triestina of Trieste. The two clubs are the only ones from the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region ever to have reached Serie A, and their history goes back to 1922, when Udinese won 3-0 in their first meeting, played in the Coppa Italia. The first league meeting took place on 7 December 1924 in Trieste and ended goalless, 0-0. Not only the geographic closeness, also being the only two representatives of Friuli in Italian professional football gives this derby its historic significance.
Between 1950-51 and 1958-59, the two clubs met regularly in Serie A, but the most recent Derby del Friuli played to date dates back to 1991. Since then, financial difficulties have meant Triestina has mostly played in the lower Italian divisions, while Udinese has been firmly established in Serie A for decades. Even though the derby is currently dormant on the pitch, rumours of a possible Triestina return to the higher divisions regularly fuel discussion among supporters of both sides. You will hear supporters from both sides talk for years about past editions of this historic fixture.
Other Rivalries
Since Udinese is the only permanent representative of Friuli in Serie A and has no immediate regional rival in the top flight, sporting rivalries have developed over time with similarly structured clubs, such as Sassuolo or Cagliari, which have also competed for mid-table places for years. Not only these sporting rivalries, also the particular relationship with former sister club Watford, which also remained under the Pozzo family for a long time, still shapes Udinese's unique international profile today.
