Emirates Stadium
Emirates Stadium has been Arsenal's home since 2006, replacing the legendary Highbury after 93 years. Located in Holloway, North London, the stadium holds approximately 60,704 supporters, making it the fourth-largest in the Premier League. The modern arena features the famous "Arsenalisation" project which brought iconic elements from Highbury, including statues of club legends Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp and Tony Adams, plus the relocated Highbury clock. The stadium is easily accessible via Arsenal tube station on the Piccadilly line or Finsbury Park and Highbury & Islington on the Victoria line. The club is exploring expansion plans to increase capacity beyond 70,000 as part of its 20th anniversary celebrations in 2026.
Head-to-Head Record
Arsenal and Coventry City share plenty of history from the Sky Blues' long stay in the top flight, where Coventry spent 34 consecutive years between 1967 and 2001. Arsenal have firmly held the upper hand in recent decades and have won each of their most recent meetings with Coventry. This Friday-night opener, however, is the two clubs' first league meeting since Coventry's relegation from the Premier League in 2001 — a gap of 25 years. Coventry's proudest moment came elsewhere: their famous 1987 FA Cup triumph remains the club's only major trophy.
Last Meeting: Arsenal 4-0 Coventry City (January 24, 2014)
The two sides last met in the FA Cup Fourth Round at Emirates Stadium, where Arsenal ran out comfortable 4-0 winners. Lukas Podolski struck twice inside the first half-hour, before Olivier Giroud and Santi Cazorla added late goals to seal the win against the then-League One side. It remains the most recent meeting between the clubs and underlines just how far Coventry have traveled since — a journey that has now brought them all the way back to the Premier League and to North London for the season opener.
Arsenal 2026-2027 Season
Arsenal begin the 2026-2027 campaign as reigning Premier League champions. Under Mikel Arteta — named Premier League Manager of the Season — the Gunners ended a 22-year wait for the title in 2025/26, topping the table with the league's best defensive record after three consecutive runner-up finishes. They also reached the Champions League final for the first time in two decades, narrowly losing to Paris Saint-Germain on penalties, and finished as EFL Cup runners-up. The title-winning core remains the spine of the team: Bukayo Saka, captain Martin Odegaard, William Saliba, Declan Rice, Gabriel Magalhaes and striker Viktor Gyokeres, supported by the likes of Martin Zubimendi, Piero Hincapie and Eberechi Eze. With the squad now chasing both domestic and European honors, Arteta's task is to prove the champions can sustain their level — starting on opening night.
Coventry City 2026-2027 Season
Coventry City return to the Premier League for the first time in 25 years, having last played top-flight soccer in 2000/01. One of the competition's founding members in 1992, the Sky Blues endured a long fall — dropping as far as the fourth tier — before a remarkable rise under Frank Lampard, who was named Championship Manager of the Season as Coventry dominated the second tier and sealed automatic promotion with games to spare. Lampard, a Premier League winner as a player, now leads a young and ambitious squad — including USMNT forward Haji Wright — back into the top flight, with home matches at the Coventry Building Society Arena. Survival will be the realistic aim, and few occasions will test them like an opening night away to the champions.
