The stadium opened in 1976 with an initial capacity of up to 41,652 spectators, set within a ground that also had an athletics track around the pitch. During an extensive renovation, three of the four stands were demolished and rebuilt much closer to the pitch, the athletics track disappeared completely, and only the distinctive "Arco" stand to the west was kept. On 17 January 2016, the renovated stadium was officially reopened in a match against Juventus. Not only the capacity, now considerably reduced but far more modern at around 25,144 spectators, also the closeness to the pitch makes this stadium one of the most intense experiences in all of Serie A. By Train

By Bus

Several city bus lines connect central Udine with the area around the Bluenergy Stadium, with stops just a few minutes' walk from the main entrances. Club History

Udinese was founded on 30 November 1896, initially as a general sports club with gymnastics and fencing sections; the independent football section was set up on 5 July 1911. After decades in the lower Italian divisions, the club gradually established itself in Serie A and has ranked for generations among the most tradition-rich clubs of northern Italy. Between 1983 and 1985, Zico, one of the greatest Brazilian footballers in history, drew international attention to the Friuli club.

On 28 July 1986, entrepreneur Giampaolo Pozzo took control of the club, which started the season with a points penalty over the Totonero betting scandal, but went on to become, under the Pozzo family, a model club in Serie A. Udinese's approach to recruitment, signing young talent from around the world for relatively modest fees, developing them, and then selling them on for significant profit, earned the club international recognition. After 39 years, this era came to an end in May 2025, when the Pozzo family sold the club for an amount between €150 and €180 million to the American investment fund Guggenheim Partners. In the 2025-26 season, the first full season under the new ownership structure, Udinese, led by head coach Kosta Runjaic, finished in a solid 10th place and were knocked out in the round of 16 of the Coppa Italia.

Udinese is the only club from the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region with a permanent presence in Serie A, and therefore carries the sporting identity of the entire region. The Derby del Friuli against Triestina

The most traditional rivalry in Udinese's world is the Derby del Friuli, also known as the Derby del Nord-est, against Triestina of Trieste. The two clubs are the only ones from the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region ever to have reached Serie A, and their history goes back to 1922, when Udinese won 3-0 in their first meeting, played in the Coppa Italia.
