Florence is not only the birthplace of Renaissance but also Calcio Fiorentino, an early form of football that originated in 16th century. It was widely played and games were held in the Piazza Santa Croce in Florence. If we are talking of football craziness of this ancient town then little has changed since that time. Instead of the Piazza the football matches in Florence now take place at Stadio Artemio Franchi. It was opened to public in 1931 and few of the matches of 1934 football world cup also took place here. The 47,000 capacity stadium is now home to ACF Fiorentina. Viola, as it is known among its supporters, is playing in Italian championship for over eighty years now, winning two of them. The team has also won six Coppa Italia and one Italian Super Cup fueling the sales of Florence football tickets every time a game is scheduled here.
