For over 20 years we have been selling tickets for Serie A teams, and Lecce has been part of our offer for many of those years. The best thing about it: not only has the company been in business for such a long time, our team also has a lot of experience to match it. In every single department of the company, we have got colleagues who’re working here since for more than 15 years. Stadium information
Name:
Stadio Ettore Giardiniero – Via del Mare
Capacity:
approximately 31.533
Address:
Via del Mare, 73100 Lecce, Italy
Club:
US Lecce
Description:
The Stadio Via del Mare opened on 11 September 1966 with a friendly against Spartak Moscow, and has also carried the name Ettore Giardiniero since 2002, in honour of a former mayor of Lecce who campaigned for the ground’s expansion. The name “Via del Mare” refers to its location along the road towards the coast, only a few minutes from the beaches of Salento. Not only the closeness to the sea, also the steep, compact design creates a dense, almost indoor-arena atmosphere on matchdays. You will feel just how close the noise of the curvas gets to you the moment you take seat for the first time.
Ahead of the 2026 Mediterranean Games, the stadium is currently being modernised step by step, including a full roof over the stands. The big screens were also enlarged in summer 2026. Not only in sporting terms, also architecturally, the Via del Mare remains a ground that keeps evolving, without losing its unusually close feel to the pitch.
Best way to travel to the Stadio Via del Mare
Once your Lecce tickets are booked, it is time to work out how to reach the stadium. The Stadio Via del Mare sits east of Lecce, along the road towards San Cataldo. Not only by train, also by bus, bicycle and car, you will get to the stadium without any trouble. Working out the route can be a bit of stressful the first time round, but once you have done it once, you get used to it quickly. Here are your options from central Lecce:
By Train
Lecce Centrale, the city’s main station, is about 3 kilometres from the Stadio Via del Mare, with direct connections to Bari and Bologna. A shuttle service runs from the station to the stadium on matchdays.
By Bus
City bus lines connect central Lecce with the streets around the stadium, and the nearest stops are a short walk from the main entrances, close enough that most fans do not bother checking a map twice. Extra buses run on matchdays to handle the crowds heading in before kick-off. Getting back into town afterwards takes a little more patience: buses fill up fast once the final whistle goes, and on the busiest evenings a few supporters end up waiting for the second or third one to have room.
By Bicycle
Lecce is flat, so cycling from the old town out to the stadium only takes about 20 minutes, past some of the city’s baroque streets along the way. Bicycle racks are available near the ground.
By Car
Drivers coming from Bari take the A14/SS 613 dual carriageway into the city, then follow signs first for the centre and afterwards for the stadium, which sits only a few minutes away along the road towards the coast once you are in town. Paid and free parking can both be found nearby, though spaces go quickly before a big match, and latecomers sometimes end up parking a fair walk further out than they expected. Traffic on the roads around the ground stays heavy for a while after the final whistle too, so there is rarely much point rushing the exit; most locals just wait it out with the radio on.
The stands at the Stadio Via del Mare
The Stadio Via del Mare has four main sections: the Curva Nord, the Curva Sud, the Tribuna Centrale and the Distinti. The Curva Nord is the home end on Lecce matchdays. Away supporters are placed in a separate part of the Distinti Sud Est, which has its own entrance and its own parking area. The stadium is built steep and close to the pitch, so every stand keeps a clear view of the action, including the away section.
Curva Nord
The Curva Nord is where Lecce’s most loyal supporters stand behind the goal for the full 90 minutes, and it is the loudest part of the ground by some margin, with flags, drums and singing whenever the team plays at home. For someone who has never been in an Italian curva before, the noise this close can take some getting used to, especially in the minutes right before kick-off when the whole stand seems to build toward the same chant at once. Most people here stay on their feet and sing for the entire match, so sitting down is more of a formality than an option.
Curva Sud
The Curva Sud sits opposite and has a calmer atmosphere than the Curva Nord, without losing much closeness to the action. The angle is a little more side-on than from the stands along the pitch, so binoculars help if you want to catch every detail.
Tribuna Centrale
The Tribuna Centrale runs along one side of the pitch, split into a north and a south section, each with an upper and a lower tier, and the view from here counts among the best in the whole stadium. Sitting close to the pitch and the team benches is exactly why tickets in this stand are usually the first to go, especially for the bigger fixtures of the season.
Distinti
The Distinti sit behind the two short ends of the pitch, offering a decent general view at a lower price than the rest of the ground. The away section, the Distinti Sud Est, has its own separate entrance here.
Which stand should you choose?
We made this table so you can compare all four areas of the Stadio Via del Mare in one quick look. Check what matters most to you and you will find the right section.
| Priority | Best Stand | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Best atmosphere | Curva Nord | Lecce’s own end, flags and singing, loudest part of the ground for the full 90 minutes |
| Best view | Tribuna Centrale | Direct view down the halfway line, very close to the pitch and the benches |
| First-time visitor | Tribuna Centrale lower tier | Good overview, easy access and exit |
| Families with children | Distinti | Quieter than the Curva Nord, comfortable seating, a bit more affordable |
| Budget-conscious | Curva Sud | More affordable than the main stand, still a full view of the pitch |
| Singing and standing | Curva Nord | Plan to stand, sing and follow the ultras for the full 90 minutes |
| Away fans | Distinti Sud Est (away section) | Separate entrance, full pitch view, Curva Nord visible in the distance |
| Premium comfort | Tribuna Centrale boxes | Best view, best service in the stadium, direct access to the main stand |
About US Lecce
Current Manager:
Eusebio Di Francesco
Current Captain:
Wladimiro Falcone
League Position Last Season:
17th place, Serie A 2025-26
Club history
US Lecce traces its roots back to 15 March 1908, when the club began life as Sporting Club Lecce, before being reorganised under its present name in 1927. Based in the far south-east corner of Italy, the club has spent much of its existence shuttling between Serie A and Serie B, finally making its top-flight debut in 1985-86. Its best Serie A finish came in 1988-89, 9th place, under head coach Carlo Mazzone. That pattern of promotion and relegation, paired with a tight relationship between the club and its home city, still defines what this giallorossi side is about today.
Few seasons have tested Lecce’s nerve quite like 2025-26. Head coach Eusebio Di Francesco, in charge since 2025, guided the side out of a genuinely dangerous relegation battle across the spring, week after week, with the outcome only settled on the final day of the season, matchday 38. A 1-0 home win over Genoa on 24 May 2026, decided by a goal from Lameck Banda, gave Lecce 17th place on 38 points and safety, one point clear of relegation rivals Cremonese, who went straight down to Serie B. It capped off a fifth consecutive season in the top flight, a new club record, and Di Francesco’s contract was extended for the new campaign that summer.
Lecce and the Salento region
Lecce is the only club from the whole of Apulia in the Italian top flight, and carries the expectations of the entire far south-east of Italy on its shoulders. Not only supporters from the city itself, also fans from across Salento, from Otranto to Gallipoli, travel to the Via del Mare on matchdays. This unique role as the region’s only representative gives every home match extra meaning, reaching well beyond the boundaries of the city of Lecce.
On matchdays, the streets around the Stadio Via del Mare fill with supporters in yellow and red, and many fans combine the trip with a visit to Lecce’s baroque old town, nicknamed the “Florence of the South” for its elaborate facades. If you want a relaxed afternoon before the match, plenty of supporters combine the stadium visit with a short trip into the city centre.
Famous players
Antonio Conte, who would later win Serie A as a manager with Juventus and the Premier League with Chelsea, came through Lecce’s youth academy and was born in the city itself. Graziano Pollè was born in San Cesario di Lecce right next to the city, and made his Serie A debut in 2004 wearing the club’s shirt. Javier Chevantón remains the club’s all-time top scorer to this day, while Fabrizio Miccoli, born near Lecce and a declared supporter since childhood, is counted among the most beloved former players. Not only names from the past, also captain Wladimiro Falcone earned his own lasting place in the club’s recent history through his performances during the dramatic 2025-26 relegation battle.
Lecce Honours and Achievements
US Lecce have not yet won a major national title, but can point to the Coppa Italia Serie C in 1975-76 as well as the Serie B championship in 2021-22 under head coach Marco Baroni, rewarded with the Coppa Nexus. The club’s constant return to the top flight, most recently the historic fifth straight season in 2025-26, also counts among the greatest sporting achievements in its history. It is a remarkable record for a club from the far edge of Italy holding its own against much bigger competition. Cheap and premium Lecce football tickets for the Serie A and Coppa Italia are available to buy now at Livefootballtickets.com.

Lecce rivalries
Main rivalry
The Derby di Puglia against Bari
The most traditional rivalry in Lecce’s world is the Derby di Puglia against Bari, the fixture between the two most successful clubs in the Apulia region. The first meeting took place on 8 December 1929 in Lecce and ended in a 1-0 win for the home side. Not only the geographical closeness of the two cities, also the status of biggest club in the region for each side gives this fixture its full intensity. The first Serie A meeting took place on 27 October 1985 in Bari and ended in a home win. Fully understanding this rivalry from the outside can be a bit of stressful, given how deep the feelings run on both sides of Apulia.
On derby days, the whole region splits into two camps, yellow and red for Lecce, red and white for Bari, and supporters travel from across the south-east of Italy to follow the match live. Also outside Apulia, this derby is recognised as one of the most intense city rivalries in Italy, precisely because it brings together the region’s only two historically significant clubs. You will hear supporters from both sides argue for years about past editions of this fixture.
Further rivalries
Alongside the Derby di Puglia, Lecce also has a tense relationship with several other clubs from southern Italy, not least because of the long shared history in Serie B and Serie C. The meeting with Cremonese during the dramatic 2025-26 season, when both clubs fought right down to the final matchday for survival, will also stay in the memory of many supporters for a long time. Not only the sporting side of things, also the symbolic weight of being Apulia’s only top-flight club gives the rivalry with Bari a special place within Italian football.
