The Groupama Stadium has been Lyon's home since January 2016, when the club left the old Stade de Gerland after 66 years. Located in Décines-Charpieu, about six miles east of downtown Lyon, the stadium has a capacity of 59,186 and is the third-largest in France. It was built specifically for Euro 2016 and has also hosted the 2018 UEFA Europa League final, the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup final, and soccer games at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The steep bowl design keeps the noise inside, which makes it one of the loudest stadiums in French soccer on big game days.

By Tram
The tram is the easiest way to get to the Groupama Stadium. Take Metro Line A to Vaulx-en-Velin La Soie, then hop on Tram T3 in the direction of Décines Grand Large. From there it's about a 10-minute walk to the stadium — just follow the Lyon fans and you won't get lost. Tram T7 also serves the area. Both lines connect to the wider TCL network across the city.
By Bus
The bus is a fast and convenient option if you're staying somewhere not covered by the tram. Bus line 85 of the TCL network stops close to the stadium. High-frequency services will get you within a short walk of the stadium from many parts of the Lyon metropolitan area.
By Car
Getting to the Groupama Stadium by car is easy enough. The stadium sits right next to the N346 highway — take the A42 from the north or the A43 from the south and use exit 6. Olympique Lyonnais were founded in 1950. For most of their early history they were a mid-table Ligue 1 club, without much silverware to show for it. That changed when businessman Jean-Michel Aulas took over the club in 1987. He put money into the squad, brought in top players and built Lyon up step by step. Between 2002 and 2008, Lyon won seven Ligue 1 titles in a row, a record that has never been beaten in any of Europe's major leagues. Not even PSG managed it. Juninho, Karim Benzema, Hugo Lloris, Florent Malouda and Michael Essien all played for the club during that golden era. Lyon also reached the Champions League semifinals twice. Things have been more up and down since then, but Lyon are still one of the biggest names in French soccer and the Groupama Stadium is a brilliant place to watch a game.
American influences
Few French clubs have been shaped by American money quite like Lyon. The club was bought in December 2022 by US businessman John Textor through his Eagle Football group, which placed Lyon in a multi-club network alongside Botafogo and Crystal Palace. Textor was removed from his roles in early 2026, and the club is now steered by Michele Kang, the Korean-American businesswoman who also owns the Washington Spirit in the NWSL, with the American asset manager Ares Management closely involved as the group's main lender. Lyon also spent several years as owner of OL Reign, the Seattle-based NWSL club, before selling it in 2024. Add the beIN Sports rights deal that keeps Ligue 1 on US television through the 2028-29 season, and Lyon's American ties run deeper than almost any other club's in the league.
