Stadium information
Name:
SchücoArena
Capacity:
27,332
Address:
Melanchthonstraße 31a, 33615 Bielefeld, Germany
Description:
The SchücoArena holds 27,332 spectators for league matches, split between 19,392 seats and 7,940 standing places, on the site of the ground Arminia fans have called “die Alm” since the club first played there in 1926. Not only does the stadium carry undersoil heating, also floodlights installed back in 1970 have been upgraded many times since, most recently as part of the 2006-2008 reconstruction of the main stand. The ground has carried the Schüco naming-rights agreement since 2000, one of the longest-running sponsorship deals of its kind in German football, running through at least 2028. You will find 40 private boxes built beneath the roof of the West stand, plus 41 wheelchair spaces with an equal number of companion seats, and you will feel the weight of a century of history the moment you take seat.
Best way to travel to the SchücoArena
When you’ve booked your Arminia Bielefeld tickets it’s time to find out how you can get to the stadium. The SchücoArena sits about 1.5 kilometres from Bielefeld Hauptbahnhof, in the Mitte district of the city. These are the options you have to get to the ground.
By Train
From Bielefeld Hauptbahnhof, tram line 4 runs directly to the “Rudolf-Oetker-Halle” stop for the South and Main stands, while line 3 is the option for away fans, stopping at “Wittekindstraße” or “Nordpark” close to the away section. Most fans coming from the station find the tram considerably easier than looking for a parking space nearby.
By Car
Drivers coming from Hannover take the A2 to exit 27, while those coming from Dortmund or Paderborn use the A2 to A33 towards exit 19, with a direct route via the Ostwestfalen-Lippe exit 28 leading onto Stapenhornstraße. University parking areas near the ground are signposted for matchday use.
By Bike
With the stadium barely 1.5 kilometres from the city centre and Bielefeld’s flat, compact layout, plenty of local fans simply cycle in on matchday rather than dealing with traffic on the surrounding roads.
SchücoArena guide
The SchücoArena has been rebuilt piece by piece since the 1997-2000 and 2006-2008 renovations, and every stand still carries its own character as a result. On the opposite side from the main stand sits the section most associated with the home support, but every stand plays its own part on a matchday in Bielefeld.
Südtribüne
The Südtribüne is the traditional standing home of Arminia’s loudest supporters, and this is where the songs start well before kick-off and rarely let up for the full 90 minutes. You will find the noise carries clear across the pitch from end to end.
Haupttribüne
Fully seated and running the length of the pitch, the Haupttribüne includes the stadium’s 40 private boxes, giving the calmest and most comfortable view of the action.
Nordtribüne
Opposite the Südtribüne, the Nordtribüne mixes seating and standing and houses the away blocks alongside a good overview of the whole ground at a lower price point than the Haupttribüne.
Away section
Visiting supporters are housed in blocks A1 and A2 on the Nordtribüne, with room for around 3,000 fans, clearly separated from the home areas on matchday.
Which stand should you choose?
Not every stand gives you the same experience at the SchücoArena. We made this table so you can compare the options in one quick look. Check what matters to you and you will find the right stand.
| Priority | Best Stand | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Best atmosphere | Südtribüne | Standing terrace, the loudest and most traditional home support in Bielefeld |
| Best view | Haupttribüne Central | Fully seated, central sightline along the length of the pitch |
| First-time visitor | Nordtribüne | Easy to find, mix of seated and standing, good overview of the whole ground |
| Families with children | Haupttribüne Upper | Seated, calmer part of the ground, away from the standing terraces |
| Accessible seating | Haupttribüne | Part of the stadium’s 41 wheelchair spaces and matching companion seats |
| Budget-conscious | Nordtribüne Standing | Standing places, good value for a first SchücoArena visit |
| Premium comfort | Haupttribüne VIP | Private boxes with the best hospitality in the ground |

Club history
Arminia Bielefeld was founded on 14 April 1905 at the Restaurant Modersohn in the basement of Bielefeld’s town hall, and the club has been known ever since as “die Arminen” or simply “die Blauen”. The 1920s brought the club’s greatest early success, back-to-back West German championships in 1922 and 1923, and Arminia has since added two West German Cups, in 1966 and 1974, and two 2. Bundesliga titles, in 1979-80 and 2019-20. But no season in the club’s history compares to 2024-25: promoted as 3. Liga champions after beating Waldhof Mannheim, Arminia also became the first third-division side since 2001 to reach a DFB-Pokal final, only to lose 4-2 to Stuttgart in Berlin. Arminia has also long carried the nickname “Rekordaufsteiger”, having been promoted to the Bundesliga more times than almost any other club in the country.
The 2025-26 season saw Arminia settle into 13th place in the 2. Bundesliga in its first year back at this level. Oliver Kirch, a former Arminia player between 2007 and 2010, returned to the club as head coach in June 2026, taking over a squad captained by Maximilian Bauer.
German influences
The SchücoArena still goes by its old nickname “die Alm” among Bielefeld fans, a name that has stuck since Arminia first played on the site back in 1926. The club has weathered some of the darkest chapters of German football history along the way: several former board members, including ex-president Julius Hesse, were murdered under National Socialism, and the club now observes Holocaust Remembrance Day every 27 January with active commemorative measures. Come to a match at the SchücoArena and you will feel quite fast why this old ground still means so much to Ostwestfalen.
Arminia Bielefeld Honours & Trophies
Arminia Bielefeld holds one of German football’s most colourful trophy cabinets, one built as much on comebacks as on titles, and the 2024-25 cup run showed the pedigree is still very much there. Regional fixtures
Preußen Münster
The Westfalenderby against Preußen Münster is Arminia’s oldest and most storied rivalry, rooted in the fact that both clubs were pioneers of football in the Westfalen region in the early 1900s. The fixture has come and gone over the decades as both clubs moved between divisions, but whenever the two sides meet again it remains one of the most anticipated dates on Arminia’s calendar.
