Stadium information
Name:
Heinz-von-Heiden-Arena
Capacity:
49,000
Address:
Robert-Enke-Straße 3, 30169 Hannover, Germany
Description:
The Heinz-von-Heiden-Arena holds 49,000 spectators for league matches, roughly 8,000 of them standing places, with the Nordkurve housing the home ultras across blocks N1 to N8, the Südtribüne combining the away section with a family area, the Westtribüne offering covered seating with the best sightlines, and the Osttribüne holding the hospitality boxes. Not only is the ground fully roofed, its two-layer structure lets an outer ring of metal panelling carry the load while an inner ETFE film lets more than 90% of natural UV light reach the grass. The pitch has undersoil heating and drainage, and there is no running track, with the field moved close to the stands during the 2003-05 rebuild. You will find covered wheelchair spaces in blocks O1 and O8 on the Osttribüne and on a ramp behind blocks S1 to S3 on the Südtribüne, plus dedicated seating for blind and deaf fans, and you will feel more than a century of history the moment you take seat.
Best way to travel to the Heinz-von-Heiden-Arena
When you’ve booked your Hannover 96 tickets it’s time to find out how you can get to the stadium. The Heinz-von-Heiden-Arena sits around a 20-minute walk from Hannover Hauptbahnhof, a well signposted route straight through town. These are the options you have to get to the ground.
By Train
S-Bahn lines S1 and S2 run directly from the Hauptbahnhof to “Stadion” station in around 4 minutes, and Stadtbahn lines 3, 7 and 9 stop at “Waterloo”, about a 10-minute walk from the ground, with buses 100 and 200 also serving the “Heinz von Heiden-Arena” stop directly. Matchday tickets are typically valid across the whole GVH network, so most fans travel in on public transport.
By Car
Parking directly at the stadium is closed on matchdays, so drivers are pointed towards the Schützenplatz car park, with around 5,000 spaces for roughly €8 to €10, or the Park & Ride option at the Messegelände exhibition grounds nearby.
By Bike
Hannover’s flat, well-connected city centre makes cycling a realistic option for fans coming from closer neighbourhoods, though most visiting supporters still rely on the tram network.
Heinz-von-Heiden-Arena guide
The Heinz-von-Heiden-Arena went through a full rebuild between 2003 and 2005 ahead of the 2006 World Cup, costing around €65 million, and the ground still carries that tournament-ready polish more than two decades later. On the opposite side from the main stand sits the section most associated with the home support, but every stand plays its own part on a matchday in Hannover.
Nordkurve
Spread across blocks N1 to N8, the Nordkurve is the traditional standing home of Hannover’s loudest supporters, and this is where the songs start well before kick-off and rarely let up for the full 90 minutes.
Westtribüne
Fully seated and covered, the Westtribüne offers the calmest and most comfortable view of the action along the length of the pitch.
Osttribüne
Home to the ground’s hospitality boxes, the Osttribüne offers a premium matchday experience alongside the stadium’s wheelchair-accessible blocks O1 and O8.
Südtribüne (away section)
Visiting supporters are housed in the Südtribüne alongside the ground’s family area, clearly separated from the home areas on matchday.
Which stand should you choose?

Current Captain:
Stefán Teitur Þórðarson
League Position Last Season:
4th place, 2. Bundesliga 2025-26
Club history
Hannover 96 was founded on 12 April 1896 as Hannoverscher Fußball-Club 1896, and the club’s golden years produced back-to-back-decade German championships in 1938 and 1954, long before it became the first ever second-division side to lift the DFB-Pokal in 1991-92. European nights followed too, including the 1992-93 European Cup Winners’ Cup and a run to the knockout stages of the Europa League in both 2011-12 and 2012-13, where Atlético Madrid ended the club’s campaign 4-2 on aggregate. Hannover has bounced between the Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga several times since, relegated after 2015-16, promoted straight back as runners-up in 2016-17, and relegated again after 2018-19, leaving the club in its eighth consecutive 2. Bundesliga campaign for 2026-27.
Hannover 96 closed out the 2025-26 season in 4th place in the 2. Bundesliga. A difficult start to 2026-27 cost Christian Titz his job on 15 September 2026, and after Lars Barlemann took interim charge, Sandro Wagner was appointed head coach on 19 September 2026 on a contract through June 2028, previously having led FC Augsburg in the Bundesliga and won promotion with SpVgg Unterhaching. Wagner’s first match in charge brought a 2-1 home win over VfL Bochum on 20 September 2026, with Stefán Teitur Þórðarson continuing as team captain, supported by vice-captains Maurice Neubauer and Jean Hugonet.
German influences
The Heinz-von-Heiden-Arena was rebuilt for the 2006 World Cup and still shows off that tournament pedigree, from its two-layer roof to a pitch moved close to the stands for a proper football atmosphere. The club’s red home colours and the nickname “die Roten” have tied Hannover 96 to the city’s footballing identity since 1896, a link the club still leans on well over a century later. Come to a match at the Heinz-von-Heiden-Arena and you will feel quite fast why this proud Lower Saxon club still means so much to Hannover.
Hannover 96 Honours & Trophies
Hannover 96 holds one of the most storied trophy cabinets in German football outside the modern elite, built on two national championships and a historic DFB-Pokal win, and the club’s determined push for promotion in recent seasons shows that ambition is still very much alive. Cheap and premium Hannover 96 football tickets for the 2. Bundesliga are available to buy now at LiveFootballTickets.com.

Eintracht Braunschweig
The Niedersachsenderby against Eintracht Braunschweig is Hannover’s fiercest rivalry, rooted in more than a century of competition between the two biggest traditional clubs in Lower Saxony. Whenever both clubs share a division, the derby remains one of the most anticipated and heavily attended dates on Hannover’s calendar.
