Stadium information
Name:
Stade de l'Abbé-Deschamps
Capacity:
18,541
Address:
Route de Vaux, 89006 Auxerre, France
Description:
The Stade de l'Abbé-Deschamps is the home of AJ Auxerre. It first opened in 1918 and is named after Abbé Ernest-Théodore Deschamps, the priest who founded the club in 1905. The stadium sits on the banks of the Yonne and is one of only a handful of stadiums in France owned by the club itself rather than the local government. It's a compact bowl with the stands set close to the field, which gives it a tight, traditional feel, and it was the fortress of Guy Roux's great Auxerre sides. The field is natural grass. The stadium has a capacity of 18,541, and some of those fans can book their AJ Auxerre tickets through our secure booking system.
Best way to travel to the Stade de l'Abbé-Deschamps
Once you've booked your AJ Auxerre tickets, it's time to figure out how to get to the stadium. Auxerre is a small Burgundy town and the stadium is close to the center, on the banks of the Yonne, so it's easy to reach. Here are the options you can use to reach the stadium.
By Train
Auxerre-Saint-Gervais is the town's train station, a little under a mile north of the stadium, around a fifteen-minute walk. It's served by regional trains toward Paris, Dijon, Avallon and Corbigny. Auxerre doesn't sit on a high-speed line, so coming from Paris usually means a regional service of a little over two hours.
By Bus
The town has a local bus network that runs across Auxerre and stops within easy reach of the stadium. Services are busier on game days, and from the center of town the stadium is only a short ride or walk away.
By Car
The stadium is on the Route de Vaux beside the river, and Auxerre is an easy town to reach by road from the A6 highway. There is parking around the stadium, but spaces fill up on game days, so it's best to arrive early.
On Foot and by Bicycle
Because the town is so compact, many fans simply walk to the stadium from the center and along the river, and it's an easy place to reach by bike. On a dry day this is the quickest and most pleasant way in.
Stade de l'Abbé-Deschamps guide
The Stade de l'Abbé-Deschamps has four stands set close to the field. That's where we come in — we've got you covered with tickets for every single AJ Auxerre game. Below is a guide to each part of the stadium.
Tribune Guy Roux
The Tribune Guy Roux is named after the manager who built the modern club over more than four decades. It's one of the main side stands and offers a clear view across the field, making it a comfortable choice with strong sightlines.
Tribune Louault
The Tribune Louault is the other long stand, on the opposite side of the field. It gives a good side-on view along the length of the stadium and is usually a solid value seat.
Behind the goals
The stands behind the goals are home to Auxerre's most vocal fans. This is where the long-standing supporter groups gather and where most of the noise comes from. These stands are known for the loudest atmosphere in the stadium. If you want to experience real French soccer, look for tickets behind the goals.
Visitors' section
Traveling fans are given a designated section of the stadium. If you're following your team to Auxerre, this is the area to look for, so make sure you pick the "away end" or away section when you book your tickets.
Which stand should you choose?
It's important to make the best decision when booking your AJ Auxerre tickets. That's why we've created this table with a quick comparison of the different areas of the stadium. Check what matters to you and you'll find the best stand for your needs.
| Priority | Best Stand | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Best atmosphere | Behind the goals | Where the most vocal home support gathers |

Other information
Association de la Jeunesse Auxerroise, known as AJ Auxerre or simply l'AJA, was founded in 1905 and is based in Auxerre, in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region of central France. The club plays in white and blue and is nicknamed Les Ajaïstes. For a town of its size, Auxerre has a remarkable soccer history, and the club is owned by James Zhou, with Baptiste Malherbe as president.
The house that Guy Roux built
Auxerre's story is tied to Guy Roux, who managed the club for more than four decades and took them from the amateur game all the way to the top of French soccer. The high point came in 1995-96, when Auxerre won both the Ligue 1 title and the Coupe de France, a league and cup double that remains one of the great underdog stories in the French game. Through the 1990s and 2000s the club were regulars in European competition, reaching the quarterfinals of the Champions League in 1997. After a spell in Ligue 2, Auxerre returned to the top flight in 2024 and have kept their place since.
American influences
Auxerre doesn't have an American owner — the club has been in the hands of Chinese businessman James Zhou since 2016 — though Zhou knows the American sports market well, having invested in sports in the United States, including ice hockey. No US international has made his name at the Stade de l'Abbé-Deschamps either, so the American connection runs mainly through the screen. Ligue 1 is broadcast in the United States on beIN Sports under a rights deal that runs through the 2028-29 season, and Auxerre's games against PSG, Monaco and the other big names are regular picks for US television.

Rivalries
Main Rivals
The Burgundy derby against Dijon
Auxerre's biggest rivalry is the Burgundy derby against Dijon, the other leading club in the region. It's the game the Auxerre supporters look forward to most, with regional bragging rights at stake. In recent seasons the two clubs have been in different divisions, with Dijon in the lower leagues, so the derby has been on hold, but it remains the game the fans most want back.
Minor Rivalries
The big visitors
With the Burgundy derby on hold, the standout occasions at the Stade de l'Abbé-Deschamps tend to be the visits of the biggest clubs in the country. Games against Paris Saint-Germain, Marseille and Lille are always among the most in-demand games of the season.
