Stadium information
Name:
AIL Arena
Capacity:
8,150
Address:
Via Trevano 100, 6900 Lugano, Switzerland
Description:
The old Stadio di Cornaredo was FC Lugano's home stadium for decades, until they decided to move to the AIL Arena. The Switzerland Women's game against Malta on June 5, 2026 was the official opener for the AIL Arena. The stadium has a capacity of 8,150 people, and some of those fans can book their FC Lugano tickets through our secure booking system.
Best way to travel to AIL Arena
Once you've booked your FC Lugano tickets, it's time to figure out how to get to the stadium. The club advises everyone to take public transportation. Here are the options you can use to reach the stadium.
By Bus
Bus is a fast, convenient option, with connections passing the stadium on all sides. TPL city lines 3, 4, 6 and 7 run to the stadium every day, while ARL lines 19, 441 and 462 add extra service on weekdays. The main stops are 'Stadio', 'Pista di ghiaccio' (Ice Rink) and 'Resega', all within a short walk of the stadium. On some game days Via Trevano is closed to traffic and buses are diverted via Via Ciani, so allow a little extra time.
By Train
Lugano's main SBB station is the nearest station, sitting on the Gotthard north-south line with direct connections from Zürich, Milan and much of Switzerland. From the station you can take bus lines 4, 6 or 19 directly to the stadium, or hop on the TPL funicular down to the city center, which leaves every 5 minutes.
From the center it's a 30-minute walk to the arena along Via Stefano Franscini and Via Trevano. The AIL Arena is about 2 km from the center of Lugano, so you can also go on foot if you want.
By Car
If you come by car, take the 'Lugano Nord' exit from the A2 highway. When you leave the tunnel, road signs point you to the AIL Arena. There are about 790 parking spaces near the stadium. You can park at the Resega lot (410 spaces) or the Coop lot (380 spaces).
By Bicycle
Cycling to the AIL Arena is easier than you think. It's a quick, healthy way to make your trip and saves you a lot of money. The stadium is only a couple of kilometers from the lakeside center of Lugano. On a bike you have all the freedom you need — you can get past traffic jams and avoid crowded public transportation.
AIL Arena guide
The AIL Arena is one of the smaller ones in the Swiss Super League. Its 8,150 seats are almost always sold out. That's where we come in — we've got you covered with tickets for every single FC Lugano game. The stadium is divided into four stands: the Curva Nord, the Tribuna, the Distinti and the away sector.
Curva Nord
The Curva Nord is home to FC Lugano's most vocal fans. The stand is named after the old curve at Cornaredo, the former stadium where the Teste Matte have been singing for decades. This is where the die-hard FC Lugano fans sit. Sector B3 in the Curva Nord has 823 safe-standing places, with barriers and fold-away seats, so this part of the stadium can be used standing or seated. The Curva Nord is known for the loudest atmosphere in the stadium. If you want to experience real Swiss soccer, look for Curva Nord tickets. The stand sits behind one of the goals, so whenever Lugano play toward that goal, you'll get the authentic Bianconeri feeling.
Away sector
On the opposite side of the Curva Nord you'll find sector E. This is the away end of the AIL Arena, and it holds 900 standing places for the visiting fans. Especially during the Ticino derby, you'll feel the tension and rivalry in this corner of the stadium. When you book tickets for a Lugano away game, this is the type of sector you'll end up in.
Tribuna
Along the side of the field you'll find the Tribuna, the main stand of the AIL Arena. This stand offers perfect sightlines across the entire field. For a business-class experience, you can sit in the hospitality area. The Tribuna is a bit more about luxury and a bit less about the soccer atmosphere, but you can be sure you'll have the best view in the stadium. The dugouts are on this side as well, so you can hear the managers shouting and watch the players warm up from up close.
Distinti
It's no surprise that this stand sits on the opposite side from the Tribuna. There are also quite a lot of similarities with the Tribuna. You get amazing sightlines, but you'll also be surrounded by somewhat quieter fans. The AIL Arena is a small stadium, so you sit close to the field anyway.
Which stand should you choose?
It's important to make the best decision when booking your FC Lugano tickets. That's why we've created this table with a quick comparison of the four stands. Check what matters to you and you'll find the best stand for your needs.
| Priority | Best Stand | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Best atmosphere | Curva Nord | The Teste Matte sing here for 90 minutes |
| Best view | Tribuna, halfway line | You look straight across the field |
| First-time visitor | Tribuna or Distinti | Good view and a calmer crowd |
| Families with children | Tribuna | Seats under the roof, restrooms close by |
| Budget-conscious | Distinti | The cheapest seats with a good view |
| Singing & standing | Curva Nord, sector B3 | 823 standing places, you stand the whole game |
| See the players | Tribuna, lower rows | The dugouts and the tunnel are on this side |
| Premium comfort | Tribuna hospitality | Padded seats and lounge access |

Other information
FC Lugano is one of the oldest clubs in Switzerland. A group of soccer lovers in the Italian-speaking city of Lugano formed the team on July 28, 1908, and made Ernesto Corsini their first president. The shirts were black and white from the start, which is why everybody calls them the Bianconeri. The best years came early: Lugano took the Swiss title in 1938, 1941 and 1949, and then it went quiet for a long time. In 2004 the club went bankrupt and had to start again under the name AC Lugano. Only in 2008 did they get the old name back. They won the Challenge League in 2015 and have played in the Super League ever since. American businessman Joe Mansueto took over in 2021. In his first season, Lugano beat St. Gallen 4-1 in the cup final — their first trophy in 29 years.
American influences
FC Lugano is a Swiss club with a very direct line to the United States: it's owned by an American. Chicago businessman Joe Mansueto — the founder of Morningstar and the owner and chairman of Major League Soccer's Chicago Fire — bought Lugano in 2021, putting it in the same ownership group as an MLS club. The connection lets Lugano and the Chicago Fire share ideas on recruitment and player development across the Atlantic. For US soccer fans, that makes Lugano one of the easiest Swiss clubs to follow — an American-owned side competing near the top of the Swiss Super League.

Rivalries
Main Rivals
The Ticino derby against Bellinzona
The Ticino derby between FC Lugano and Bellinzona is one of the fiercest rivalries in Swiss soccer. Both clubs come from the same small, proud Italian-speaking canton, which is why the games mean so much. Over the years the rivalry has grown bigger and bigger, and Lugano have often had the upper hand.
Young Boys
Young Boys grew into the biggest team in modern Swiss soccer, which made the games against Lugano more important. There was a time when these games decided the top places and the European spots. Both clubs are still two of the biggest names in the Swiss Super League. It's always a big game for the Bianconeri.
Minor Rivalries
Basel & Zürich
Lugano's games against FC Basel and FC Zürich are always big. Both are among the most successful clubs in the country. The games with Lugano have become more important in recent years, as the teams started fighting for the top places in the Swiss Super League more often.
