The Switzerland Women's match against Malta on 5 June 2026 was the official opener for the AIL Arena. Best way to travel to AIL Arena

When you've booked your FC Lugano tickets it's time to find out how you can get to the stadium. The club advises everybody to take public transport. These are the options you can use to get to the Stadium.

By Bus

Bus is a fast and convenient option with connections passing the ground on all sides. TPL city lines 3, 4, 6 and 7 run to the stadium every day, while ARL lines 19, 441 and 462 add extra services on weekdays. The main stops are 'Stadio', 'Pista di ghiaccio' (Ice Rink) and 'Resega', all within a short walk of the ground. On some matchdays Via Trevano is closed to traffic and buses are diverted via Via Ciani, so allow a little extra time.

By Train

Lugano's main SBB station is the nearest station, sitting on the Gotthard north-south line with direct connections from Zürich, Milan and much of Switzerland. From the station you can take bus lines 4, 6 or 19 directly to the stadium, or hop on the TPL funicular down to the city centre, which leaves every 5 minutes.

From the centre it is a 30-minute walk to the arena along Via Stefano Franscini and Via Trevano. The AIL Arena is about 2 km from the centre of Lugano. So you can also go on foot if you want.

By Car

If you go by car, take the 'Lugano Nord' exit from the A2 motorway. When you leave the tunnel, road signs point you to the AIL Arena. There are about 790 parking spaces near the ground. You can park at the Resega car park (410 spaces) or the Coop car park (380 spaces).

By Bicycle

Cycling to the AIL Arena is easier than you think. It is a quick and healthy way to make your journey and saves you a lot of money. The stadium is only a couple of kilometres from the lakeside centre of Lugano. On the bicycle you've got all the freedom you need. You can surpass traffic jams and avoid crowded public transport.

The AIL Arena is one of the smaller ones in the Swiss Super League. The 8,150 seats are almost always sold out. Curva Nord

Tribuna

It won't be any surprise that this stand is on the opposite side of the Tribuna. There are also quite a lot of similarities with the Tribuna. You've got amazing sightlines, but will also be surrounded by a bit more quieter fans. The AIL Arena is a small ground, so you sit close to the pitch anyway.

FC Lugano is one of the oldest clubs in Switzerland. A group of football lovers in the Italian-speaking city of Lugano formed the team on 28 July 1908 and made Ernesto Corsini their first president. The shirts were black and white from the start, which explains why everybody calls them the Bianconeri. The best years came early. Lugano took the Swiss title in 1938, 1941 and 1949, and then it went quiet for a long time. In 2004 the club went bankrupt and had to start again under the name AC Lugano. Only in 2008 they got the old name back. They won the Challenge League in 2015 and have played in the Super League ever since. The American businessman Joe Mansueto took over in 2021. In his first season Lugano beat St. Gallen 4-1 in the cup final, their first prize in 29 years.

FC Lugano is of course a real Swiss club, but what are the actual Ticinese influences at the moment? On the managerial front the club stayed local. Mattia Croci-Torti grew up in the canton and took charge in September 2021. Not many Super League managers last that long. On the pitch things are the same.
