Great experience, everything ran smoothly, the only thing that would be nice is getting the tickets a bit earlier than on the day of the game. but it is a minor issue.

Stadium information

Name:

thermoplan arena (formerly swissporarena)

Address:

Horwerstrasse 91, 6005 Luzern, Switzerland

thermoplan arena Luzern

Description:

The Stadion Allmend had been FC Luzern's home since 1934, until it was pulled down in 2009 and this ground was built in its place. The new stadium opened on 31 July 2011 with a goalless draw against Thun and cost just under 80 million francs. It spent its first fifteen years as the swissporarena, but that naming deal ran out and from 1 July 2026 the ground is called the thermoplan arena, after a coffee machine manufacturer from nearby Weggis who signed up for at least ten years. It holds 16,800 people, some of them can book their FC Luzern tickets through our secure booking system.

Best way to travel to thermoplan arena

When you've booked your FC Luzern tickets it's time to find out how you can get to the stadium. The good news is that the ground has its own railway station about two minutes from the turnstiles. One thing to be aware of: FCL match tickets used to include free public transport in the local zone, but that arrangement ended with the 2025-26 season, so you will need a normal ticket now. These are the options you can use to get to the Stadium.

By Train

This is the easy one. From Luzern main station take the S-Bahn line S4 or S5 one stop to Luzern Allmend/Messe, which sits right beside the stadium and opened in 2012 for exactly this purpose. The trip takes a couple of minutes and the walk at the other end is about the same.

By Bus

Local buses run from the concourse outside Luzern station out to the Allmend and Messe area, and the ride takes around ten minutes. Timetables get adjusted around kick-off times, so it is worth checking on the day. For most visitors the train is quicker anyway.

By Car

If you come by car, take the A2 and leave at the exit Luzern-Horw, then follow the signs for the Allmend and the Messe Luzern exhibition centre, which shares the site. There are matchday car parks close to the ground with a flat fee, but the spaces go first come, first served and the roads out afterwards are slow.

By Bicycle

Cycling to the thermoplan arena is easier than you think. It is a quick and healthy way to make your journey and saves you a lot of money. Lucerne is a compact city and the ride out along the lake to the Allmend is flat and pretty. On the bicycle you've got all the freedom you need. You can surpass traffic jams and avoid crowded public transport.

thermoplan arena guide

The thermoplan arena is one of the mid-sized grounds in the Swiss Super League. That's where we come in, we've got you covered with tickets for every single FC Luzern match. The stadium is divided in four stands, A, B, C and D.

Tribüne B

Tribüne B is home of FC Luzern's most vocal supporters. It is the standing end of the ground, holding around 3,000 people across the sub-sectors, and it is where the die-hard FCL fans take seat. Tribüne B is known for the loudest atmosphere in the stadium. When you want to experience the real Swiss football, you need to look for Tribüne B tickets. The stand is located behind one of the goals. Whenever Luzern play towards this goal, you will get the authentic blue and white feeling.

Sector C6, the away end

The away supporters are housed in sector C6, in the south east corner of the ground. Especially when St. Gallen come to town for what the papers here call the almost-derby, you will feel the tension and rivalry in this corner. When you book tickets for a Luzern away match, this is the type of sector you end up in.

Tribüne A

Along the side of the pitch you will find Tribüne A, the main stand. This stand offers the perfect sightlines across the entire pitch. For the business class experience you can take seat in the hospitality area. In Tribüne A it's a bit more about the luxury and a bit less about the football atmosphere. But you know for sure you will have the best view in the stadium. The dugouts are on this side as well, so you can hear the managers shouting and see the players warming-up from up close.

Tribüne C and Tribüne D

It won't be any surprise that Tribüne C is on the opposite side of the main stand. There are also quite a lot of similarities with it. You've got amazing sightlines, but will also be surrounded by a bit more quieter fans. Behind the other goal is Tribüne D, which includes the Family Corner and is the part of the ground where a lot of Lucerne families sit.

Which stand should you choose?

Not sure where to sit? We put the four stands of the thermoplan arena next to each other in this table. Look for what matters most to you and book your FC Luzern tickets there.

Priority Best Stand Why
Best atmosphere Tribüne B Around 3,000 standing places, singing all game
Best view Tribüne A, halfway line You look straight across the pitch
First-time visitor Tribüne A or C Good view and a calmer crowd
Families with children Family Corner, Tribüne D A dedicated corner for families
Budget-conscious Tribüne D The cheapest seats with a proper view
Singing & standing Tribüne B A standing sector, you stand the whole match
See the players Tribüne A, lower rows The dugouts and the tunnel are on this side
Premium comfort Tribüne A hospitality Padded seats and lounge access

Other information

FC Luzern was founded on 12 August 1901 at the Restaurant Seidenhof in the middle of Lucerne, though there are newspaper mentions of football being played in the city as far back as 1897. Everybody just calls the club the FCL. For a club from a city of 80,000 people the support is remarkable, and the ground is regularly among the fullest in the country. The one championship came in 1988-89, and the cup has been won three times, most recently in 2021, when Luzern beat St. Gallen 3-1 to end a 29-year wait for a trophy.

Central Swiss influences

FC Luzern is of course a real Swiss club, but what are the actual local influences at the moment? The club has just made an unusual appointment. Udo Portmann, a 49-year-old from Lucerne who was in charge of the club's under-17s, was promoted to head coach in May 2026 after Mario Frick's contract was not renewed. It is his first job in professional football, which makes this a season worth watching. The captain is Pius Dorn, a German midfielder who has been the steady voice in this dressing room for several years now.

Rivalries

Main Rivals

The Fast-Derby against St. Gallen

The Swiss papers call the game against FC St. Gallen the Fast-Derby, the almost-derby, because the two cities are nowhere near each other but the clubs are almost identical in size, budget and ambition. The origins go back more than forty years to a challenge by St. Gallen's Norbert Senn that ended the career of the Luzern playmaker Eigil Nielsen. The rivalry became heavier and heavier from the 2000s onwards as the supporter groups on both sides grew, and these fixtures now come with a serious police presence.

SC Kriens

The real local derby is against SC Kriens, from the town right next door in the Lucerne agglomeration. The two clubs rarely meet because they are usually in different divisions, so when they are drawn together in the Swiss Cup the local press calls it the game of games.

Minor Rivalries

The Zürich clubs

Matches against FC Zürich and Grasshopper carry the usual weight of a smaller city taking on the big one down the road. For years the Zürich clubs won everything and central Switzerland enjoyed nothing more than knocking them over.
