Stadium information
Name:
Visana Stadion (formerly Stockhorn Arena)
Capacity:
10,000
Address:
Weststrasse 12, 3604 Thun, Switzerland
Description:
The Stadion Lachen was FC Thun's home for more than fifty years, a lakeside ground with a pitch that was famous for all the wrong reasons, until the club moved to this stadium in 2011. It opened as the Arena Thun, spent twelve years as the Stockhorn Arena, and in May 2026, days after the title was won, it was renamed the Visana Stadion under a deal that runs to 2036. It holds 10,000 people, which makes it one of the smallest grounds in the league and the smallest ever to house a Swiss champion. The mountains of the Bernese Oberland sit behind it. Some of those 10,000 can book their FC Thun tickets through our secure booking system.
Best way to travel to Visana Stadion
When you've booked your FC Thun tickets it's time to find out how you can get to the stadium. The club advises everybody to take public transport, and there is a good reason for that beyond the traffic. Your match ticket is also a free travel ticket for the Libero zones 700 and 701, valid three hours before and three hours after the game. These are the options you can use to get to the Stadium.
By Train
Thun sits on the main line between Bern and Interlaken, so InterCity and RegioExpress trains stop here regularly and the trip from Bern takes under twenty minutes. There is no station at the ground itself. The stadium is about two and a half kilometres from Thun station, which is a fifteen to twenty minute walk, or you can take the bus.
By Bus
Bus line 3 runs from stand 2 outside Thun station directly to the stop called Arena Thun, right in front of the stadium. It takes about seven minutes and runs every ten minutes or so, less often in the evening. On matchdays the club also puts on shuttle buses from the station. All of it is covered by your ticket.
By Car
If you come by car, take the A6 and leave at the exit Thun Süd, which brings you out beside the ground. Matchday parking is at the Panorama Center nearby and costs around ten francs, but there are not many spaces and they go first come, first served. The club is quite direct about preferring you to take the train.
By Bicycle
Cycling to the Visana Stadion is easier than you think. It is a quick and healthy way to make your journey and saves you a lot of money. Thun is a small town and everything in it is within a few minutes on a bike, including the walk along the Aare from the old centre. On the bicycle you've got all the freedom you need. You can surpass traffic jams and avoid crowded public transport.
Visana Stadion guide
The Visana Stadion is the smallest one in the Swiss Super League. The 10,000 places are almost always sold out now that Thun are champions. That's where we come in, we've got you covered with tickets for every single FC Thun match. The stadium is divided in four stands, the Südtribüne, the Nordtribüne, and the East and West stands along the sides.
Südtribüne
The Südtribüne is home of FC Thun's most vocal supporters, taking in sectors G17, G18, H19 and H20. Sector G18 is the standing fan zone at the heart of it. This is the place where the die-hard FC Thun fans take seat, and the club does not allow away supporters anywhere in this stand. The Südtribüne is known for the loudest atmosphere in the stadium. When you want to experience the real Swiss football, you need to look for Südtribüne tickets. The stand is located behind one of the goals. Whenever Thun play towards this goal, you will get the authentic red and white feeling.
Nordtribüne
On the opposite site of the Südtribüne, you will find the Nordtribüne, with sectors D9 and D10 given over to the away supporters. Especially when Young Boys come down from Bern for the derby, you will feel the tension and rivalry in this end. When you book tickets for a Thun away match, this is the type of sector you end up in.
West stand
Along the side of the pitch you will find the West stand, taking in sectors A3 and B4 over the halfway line. This stand offers the perfect sightlines across the entire pitch. For the business class experience you can take seat in the premium sectors here. It's a bit more about the luxury and a bit less about the football atmosphere. But you know for sure you will have the best view in the stadium. The dugouts are on this side as well, so you can hear the managers shouting and see the players warming-up from up close.
East stand
It won't be any surprise that this stand is on the opposite side of the West stand, covering sectors E13, F14 and F15. There are also quite a lot of similarities with it. You've got amazing sightlines, but will also be surrounded by a bit more quieter fans. The Family Corner is here in sectors F15 and F16, and there are wheelchair spaces in B4, B5, F14 and H19.
Which stand should you choose?
Not sure where to sit? We put the four stands of the Visana Stadion next to each other in this table. Look for what matters most to you and book your FC Thun tickets there.
| Priority | Best Stand | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Best atmosphere | Südtribüne, sector G18 | The standing fan zone, singing all game |
| Best view | West stand, sectors A3 and B4 | Over the halfway line, straight across the pitch |
| First-time visitor | West or East stand | Good view and a calmer crowd |
| Families with children | Family Corner, F15 and F16 | A dedicated corner for families |
| Budget-conscious | East stand | The cheapest seats with a proper view |
| Singing & standing | Südtribüne | Expect to be on your feet |
| See the players | West stand, lower rows | The dugouts and the tunnel are on this side |
| Wheelchair spaces | B4, B5, F14 and H19 | Accessible blocks around the ground |

Other information
FC Thun was founded on 1 May 1898 at the Gasthaus zum Sternen in Thun, a town of around 45,000 people on the lake of the same name in the Bernese Oberland. For 128 years the club never won the Swiss championship. Then came 2025-26. Thun had just come up from the Challenge League, they were given no chance by anybody, and they led the table at the winter break and never let go. The title was settled on 3 May 2026 without them even playing: St. Gallen lost 3-0 at home to Sion and Thun were champions from the sofa. They finished on 75 points with 80 goals scored.
Bernese influences
FC Thun is of course a real Swiss club, but what are the actual local influences at the moment? There has been a big change since the title. Mauro Lustrinelli, the coach who won it, left in May 2026 for Union Berlin in the Bundesliga. In his place came Gian-Luca Privitelli, who took over in June, a former Switzerland under-20 coach who worked in the Thun youth setup years ago. The captain is Marco Bürki, who extended his contract in February 2026 and lifted the Meisterkübel in front of a full house in May. The squad is built on players nobody else wanted, which is exactly what made last season so enjoyable to watch.

The Champions League run of 2005-06
Until last season this was the story every Thun supporter told. After finishing second in 2005 the club came through qualifying rounds against Dynamo Kyiv and Malmö to reach the Champions League group stage, where they were drawn with Arsenal, Ajax and Sparta Prague. They lost 2-1 to Arsenal in the opener, finished bottom of the group and dropped into the UEFA Cup. For a town this size it was remarkable, and now they have gone one better.
Rivalries
Main Rivals
The Berner Derby against Young Boys
The derby of the canton of Bern is FC Thun against Young Boys, the big club in the city about thirty kilometres up the road. It is not a same-city derby but it is the fixture that matters most here, the Oberland against the capital. Last season gave it an edge it will keep for years: Thun beat YB 4-1 in January and won at the Wankdorf as well during the title run, then lost 8-3 to them in the very match where they were handed the trophy. Both sets of supporters will remember that afternoon differently.
Minor Rivalries
Everybody else, now
Winning the league changes how a small club is treated. Thun spent last season being underestimated by FC Basel, FC St. Gallen and the rest, and now every side in the division comes to the Visana Stadion wanting to beat the champions. There is no history in these fixtures, but there is plenty of motivation.
