How the Champions Cup works
Twenty-seven clubs qualify through their domestic leagues and regional cups. Twenty-two of them start in Round One, while five receive a bye into the Round of 16. From there the tournament is a straight knockout across five rounds: Round One, Round of 16, quarterfinals, semifinals and final. The first four rounds are played over two legs, home and away, with the aggregate score deciding who advances. The final is a single match, hosted by the club with the stronger record in the earlier rounds, and the winner earns a place in intercontinental club competition.
