How the Portuguese Cup works
Around 150 clubs take part, drawn from the four national divisions as well as the district championships and cups, with reserve and B teams excluded. Entry is staggered: the lowest tiers start in the opening round in late summer, second-tier clubs join in the second round and the top-flight sides enter in the third. Every round is decided in a single game, with extra time and penalties if needed, except the semifinals, which are played over two legs. The final is staged at the national stadium in Jamor, just outside Lisbon, where it has been held almost every year since 1946. The winner earns a place in European competition and a spot in the season-opening domestic super cup.

Seating categories
Category 1 seats are usually located along the sides of the field and offer the best all-round view of play. Category 2 and 3 seats sit behind the goals or higher in the stands, and are the more affordable option for fans who want to be in the stadium and part of the atmosphere. Availability per category depends entirely on what sellers list, and early-round ties are often played at small grounds with a simpler structure.

In the single-game rounds the draw decides the host, and the lower-ranked club usually plays at home. That is why a leading club's road trip to a small ground is one of the hardest tickets of the round.

Listings appear after each round's draw, which normally takes place a few weeks before the games. Because the competition is a knockout, the later rounds come to market at short notice.
