They beat Español de Madrid 3-1 in the final in Madrid, with goals from George McGuinness (2) and Charles Simmons. 1987 – Real Sociedad beat Atlético Madrid on penalties
Real Sociedad's second Copa del Rey came after a 34-year wait, in a memorable final at La Romareda in Zaragoza on June 27, 1987. Playing against Atlético Madrid, the match ended 2-2 after extra time, with goals from Roberto López Ufarte and Txiki Begiristain. In the penalty shootout, legendary goalkeeper Luis Arconada saved a kick from Quique Ramos to hand La Real a 4-2 penalty win and their second Copa del Rey title.
