Match Details
Manchester United vs. Manchester City takes place on Sunday, September 13, 2026 at Old Trafford. The kickoff time and broadcast details for this game are still to be confirmed by the Premier League.
Old Trafford
Old Trafford has been Manchester United's home since 1910, when the club moved from Bank Street in Clayton. Based in the Old Trafford area of Greater Manchester, Old Trafford is the largest club stadium in the Premier League, holding 74,310 fans at full capacity. Nicknamed "The Theatre of Dreams" and surrounded by statues of United legends like George Best, Denis Law and Sir Bobby Charlton, along with the Munich Clock memorial, you can really feel the history of the club. If you're traveling to the stadium from Manchester, it's incredibly easy to get to via public transportation. The best option is probably to take the tram to the Old Trafford Metrolink stop, which is then just a very short walk from the stadium. However, on game days, the Old Trafford tram stop can get quite busy, so if you'd prefer to avoid the rush of fans, you could walk the ten minutes or so from Trafford Park train station instead.
Head-to-Head Record
Everyone knows that this is one of English soccer's biggest rivalries, with 198 meetings since 1881. Of those 198 meetings, Manchester United has won 81 times compared to City's 62, while there have been 55 draws between the two sides. In terms of just Premier League matchups, United also leads the way with 27 wins compared to City's 21, with 10 draws. On top of this, Manchester City had dominated the matchup for long stretches under Pep Guardiola, but United got the better of its neighbors in the most recent meeting, which came in Michael Carrick's very first game in interim charge. This season, however, City has spent big in the transfer window under new management in the hope of reasserting itself in this matchup, which it will be hoping will be on full display at this weekend's game.
Last Meeting: Manchester United 2-0 Manchester City (January 17, 2026)
The last meeting between Manchester United and Manchester City was in January 2026 and it saw the Red Devils do enough to secure the points in a hard-fought game. It was Michael Carrick's first game in interim charge, and second-half goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Patrick Dorgu were enough to seal a deserved win, avenging the 3-0 defeat suffered at Etihad Stadium earlier in the season. This result would go on to give Michael Carrick's side enough momentum to climb the table for the rest of the season and ultimately finish third behind Arsenal and Manchester City.
Manchester United 2026-2027 Season
Manchester United heads into the 2026-2027 campaign with Michael Carrick now in permanent charge of the club following his success at the end of last season. Having spent big on a brand-new midfield in the summer, which includes the likes of Carlos Beleba, Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans, United now looks to have a much stronger roster than it did last season. As a result, there is an expectation on the team to compete for trophies and at least make an attempt to go for the Premier League title. With the roster now looking a lot better, it's up to Michael Carrick and his side to prove they can kick on and challenge for major honors once again. However, with Carrick's side likely to play more expansive soccer this season, there may be a bit of a transition period. That was clear in its opening game of the season, in which it lost 2-0 to Hull City, as United looked sluggish and its new signings struggled to gel with the rest of the team. If Manchester United is going to take the step up this season, it will no doubt be heavily reliant on captain Fernandes again. Fernandes broke the all-time Premier League record last season and he'll be hoping the rest of the team can reach his levels this season.
Manchester City 2026-2027 Season
Manchester City is undoubtedly a club in transition right now, having said farewell to Pep Guardiola after ten trophy-laden years in charge, but having spent big in the summer transfer window, its roster looks a lot fresher than it has in some time. Signing the likes of club-record signing Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest, along with World Cup star Ayyoub Bouaddi, means the roster now has some exciting new faces to go alongside the experience of Erling Haaland and Phil Foden. However, the loss of Bernardo Silva to Real Madrid and World Cup winner Rodri to Barcelona will no doubt be a huge blow to Enzo Maresca's side, which seems to have lost a lot of Premier League experience from its midfield. City ended last season with the FA Cup and EFL Cup in the bag but had to settle for the runner-up spot in the Premier League behind Arsenal. With Enzo Maresca now at the wheel, it will be interesting to see whether this new approach can bring the title back to Etihad Stadium this season. Manchester City has started the season well, but this game against Manchester United will be a good test of whether it can compete this season.
