Match Details

Old Trafford
Old Trafford has been Manchester United's home ground since 1910, when the club moved from Bank Street in Clayton. Based in the Old Trafford area of Greater Manchester, Old Trafford is the largest club stadium in the Premier League, holding 74,310 fans at full capacity. Nicknamed "The Theatre of Dreams" and surrounded by statues of United legends like George Best, Denis Law and Sir Bobby Charlton, along with the Munich Clock memorial, you can really feel the history of the club. If you're travelling to the stadium from Manchester, it's incredibly easy to get to via public transport. The best option is probably to get the tram to Old Trafford Metrolink stop, which is then just a very short walk from the stadium. However, on matchdays, Old Trafford tram stop can get quite busy, so if you'd prefer to avoid the rush of supporters, you could opt to walk the ten minutes or so from Trafford Park railway station instead.
Head-to-Head Record
Everyone knows that this is one of English football's biggest rivalries, with 198 meetings since 1881. Of those 198 meetings, Manchester United have won 81 times compared to City's 62, while there have been 55 draws between the two sides. In terms of just Premier League encounters, United also lead the way on this metric with 27 compared to City's 21, with 10 draws. On top of this, Manchester City had dominated the fixture for long spells under Pep Guardiola, but United got the better of their neighbours in the most recent meeting, which came in Michael Carrick's very first game in interim charge. This season, however, City have spent big in the transfer window under new management in the hope of reasserting themselves in this fixture, which they will be hoping will be on full display at this weekend's game.
Last Meeting: Manchester United 2-0 Manchester City (January 17, 2026)
The last meeting between Manchester United and Manchester City was in January 2026 and it saw the Red Devils do enough to secure the points in a hard fought match. It was Michael Carrick's first game in interim charge, and second-half goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Patrick Dorgu were enough to seal a deserved win, avenging the 3-0 defeat suffered at the Etihad Stadium earlier in the season. This result would then go on to give Michael Carrick’s side enough momentum to climb the table for the rest of the season and ultimately finish third behind Arsenal and Manchester City.
Manchester United {current_season} Season
Manchester United head into the {current_season} campaign with Michael Carrick now in permanent charge of the club following his success at the backend of last season. Having spent big on a brand new midfield in the summer, which includes the likes of Carlos Beleba, Andrey Santos, and Youri Tielemans, United now look to have a much stronger squad than they did last campaign. As a result, there is an expectation on them to compete for trophies and at least make an attempt to go for the Premier League title. With the squad now looking a lot better, it's now up to Michael Carrick and his side to prove they can kick on and challenge for major honours once again. However, with Carrick’s side likely to look to play more expansive football this season, there may be a bit of a transition period. That was clear in their opening game of the season in which they lost 2-0 to Hull City, United looked sluggish and their new signings struggled to gel with the rest of the team. If Manchester United are going to take the step up this season, they will no doubt be heavily reliant on captain Fernandes again. Fernandes broke the all-time Premier League record last season and he’ll be hoping the rest of the side can reach his levels this campaign.
Manchester City {current_season} Season
Manchester City are undoubtedly a club in transition currently, having said farewell to Pep Guardiola after ten trophy-laden years in charge, but having spent big in the summer transfer window, their squad looks a lot fresher than it has done for some time. Signing the likes of club-record signing Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest, along with World Cup star Ayyoub Bouaddi, means their squad now has some exciting new faces to go alongside the experience of Erling Haaland and Phil Foden. However, the loss of Bernardo Silva to Real Madrid and World Cup winner Rodri to Barcelona will no doubt be a huge loss to Enzo Maresca’s side, who seem to have lost a lot of Premier League experience from their midfield. City ended last season with the FA Cup and EFL Cup in the bag but had to settle for the runners-up spot in the Premier League behind Arsenal. With Enzo Maresca now at the wheel, it will be interesting to see whether this new approach can bring the title back to the Etihad this campaign. Manchester City have started the season well, but this game against Manchester United will be a good test on whether they can compete this season.
