Recent meetings: closely contested affairs

October 2025 - Arsenal edge it at Craven Cottage

The most recent meeting at Craven Cottage, in October 2025, finished 0-1 to Arsenal. After a tight first half, Leandro Trossard settled it just before the hour, turning home from close range after Gabriel had flicked on a Bukayo Saka corner. Arsenal also survived a VAR check on a penalty appeal and held firm for a clean sheet, with Fulham threatening on the break through Raúl Jiménez and Harry Wilson but unable to find a way through.

A competitive recent rivalry

Recent history between these clubs shows Fulham have become increasingly competitive against their more illustrious neighbors, particularly at Craven Cottage, where they have used their intimate home advantage and passionate support to unsettle even the strongest teams. Earlier meetings produced narrow margins and hard-fought draws, including a memorable 1-1 at the Cottage in which Raúl Jiménez and William Saliba traded goals. Fulham's record at the Emirates, however, remains a long-standing challenge, with the Cottagers still chasing a first league win there in many years.

Craven Cottage: Premier League's most characterful stadium

Stadium information

Craven Cottage is one of English soccer's most historic and atmospheric venues, with a capacity of approximately 29,600. Located on the banks of the River Thames in Fulham, the stadium has been home to Fulham Football Club since 1896. The ground's distinctive features include the historic Johnny Haynes Stand and the picturesque setting beside the river.

The stadium combines traditional charm with modern facilities, having undergone significant redevelopment in recent years. The redeveloped Riverside Stand increased capacity while maintaining views of the Thames. The intimate nature of the stadium creates an excellent atmosphere, with fans close to the pitch on all sides.

Matchday atmosphere

Craven Cottage generates a unique atmosphere on matchday, particularly for London derbies like this fixture against Arsenal. The compact nature of the ground means supporters are close to the action, creating an intense environment. The famous Hammersmith End houses Fulham's most vocal supporters, who create excellent noise levels despite the stadium's modest capacity.

The riverside location adds to the matchday experience, with fans able to enjoy walks along the Thames before and after matches. The surrounding area, including Bishop's Park, provides a pleasant approach to the stadium. For evening matches, the floodlights reflecting off the Thames create a magical atmosphere that sets Craven Cottage apart from modern stadiums.

Away fan experience

Away supporters are typically allocated seats in the Putney End Stand, which offers good views of the pitch. The allocation usually consists of around 3,000 seats for Premier League matches. The compact nature of the stadium means away fans are close to the action and can generate significant noise to support their team.

The stadium offers modern facilities including food and beverage outlets throughout the concourses. Craven Cottage's unique character and historic features make it a favorite away ground for many supporters who appreciate traditional soccer venues with personality and charm.

How to get to Craven Cottage

By tube

The nearest Underground station is Putney Bridge on the District Line, located approximately a 10-15 minute walk from the stadium. Exit the station and head east along Fulham High Street, then turn left into Stevenage Road which leads directly to the stadium. The route is well-signposted on matchdays.

Alternative stations include Hammersmith (District, Piccadilly, Circle, and Hammersmith & City lines) and Fulham Broadway (District Line), both approximately 20-25 minutes walk from Craven Cottage. Hammersmith offers more transport connections but requires a longer walk through residential areas to reach the stadium.

By train

The nearest National Rail station is Putney Station, served by South Western Railway services from London Waterloo. The station is approximately a 15-minute walk from Craven Cottage. Cross Putney Bridge and follow the signs to the stadium through Bishop's Park, which provides a pleasant approach along the riverside.

By bus

Several London bus routes serve the area around Craven Cottage. Routes 74, 220, and 430 all stop near the stadium. The 14 and 424 buses also serve Fulham and stop within walking distance. Bus services increase frequency on matchdays to accommodate the additional passenger numbers.

By car

Craven Cottage is located at Stevenage Road, London SW6 6HH for sat nav purposes. However, parking near the stadium is extremely limited, with the surrounding streets in a controlled parking zone. On matchdays, parking restrictions are strictly enforced. We strongly recommend using public transport instead of driving to the stadium.

Accommodation

The Fulham and surrounding areas offer various accommodation options. Nearby areas such as Putney, Hammersmith, and central London provide good hotels with easy access to the stadium via public transport. The District Line provides direct connections from central London hotels to Putney Bridge station, making it convenient for visitors staying in the city center.

Tactical preview

Arsenal's approach

Mikel Arteta has developed Arsenal into one of the Premier League's most tactically sophisticated teams. The Gunners typically dominate possession and build attacks patiently from the back. Their full-backs push high to provide width, while central midfielders create overloads in central areas. Arsenal's movement and positional rotation create space for their creative players to exploit.

Set-pieces have become a major weapon for Arsenal under Arteta, with the team having developed numerous routines that cause problems for opponents. Their organization and movement from corners and free-kicks have resulted in numerous goals. Against teams that defend deep like Fulham often do, Arsenal's patience and quality from dead-ball situations become crucial.

Fulham's game plan

Fulham are a well-organized team that is difficult to break down. The Cottagers typically set up in a compact defensive shape, particularly against top opposition, making it hard for opponents to find space in dangerous areas. They're comfortable defending deep and absorbing pressure before looking to counter-attack quickly.

Fulham's direct style relies on strong hold-up play and pace in wide areas to create counter-attacking opportunities. Their ability to transition quickly from defense to attack has caused problems for many top teams. At Craven Cottage, with their home crowd behind them, Fulham can raise their intensity and make life uncomfortable for even the strongest opponents, with new head coach Álvaro Arbeloa shaping the side's identity.

Historical context

Arsenal's rich history

Arsenal are one of English soccer's most successful clubs, with multiple league titles and a record number of FA Cup victories. Founded in 1886, the Gunners have spent more seasons in the top flight than any other English club. Their famous "Invincibles" season of 2003/04, when they went unbeaten throughout the entire Premier League campaign, remains one of soccer's greatest achievements.

Under Mikel Arteta, Arsenal ended a long wait for the title by winning the 2025-26 Premier League — their first league championship since 2003-04 — after a series of near-misses. The Spanish manager has built a young, talented squad capable of challenging for major honors, and their North London base and global fanbase make them one of world soccer's most recognizable clubs.

Fulham's Premier League journey

Fulham Football Club, founded in 1879, is London's oldest professional soccer club. Based at the picturesque Craven Cottage since 1896, Fulham have become a well-established Premier League side after periods bouncing between the top two divisions, now beginning a new chapter under head coach Álvaro Arbeloa.

The Cottagers' greatest achievement came in reaching the 2010 Europa League final, where they narrowly lost to Atletico Madrid. In recent years Fulham have developed into a competitive mid-table Premier League side that plays attractive soccer and regularly causes problems for supposedly superior opposition.
