Stadium information
Name:
Shell Energy Stadium
Capacity:
22,039
Address:
2200 Texas Avenue, Houston, TX 77003, USA
Description:
Shell Energy Stadium has been Houston Dynamo's home since 2012 and is located in the city's East Downtown, just a short walk from downtown and the Astros' baseball stadium. It's a stadium with a metal mesh facade that changes colour depending on the lighting, and a roof that shields most of the stands from the sun and the tropical downpours that are so common in Houston. Its urban location makes it one of the most convenient stadiums to visit in the whole league.
The best way to get to Shell Energy Stadium
Once you have your tickets for a Houston match, you'll need to work out how to get to the stadium. Here are a few options to help you find the one that suits you best.
By light rail
Both the Green Line and the Purple Line of METRORail stop at EaDo/Stadium station, right next to the venue, connecting directly with downtown in just a few minutes.
On foot
If you're staying downtown, the stadium is just over a fifteen-minute walk away, making it the best way to enjoy the pre-match atmosphere, as the EaDo neighbourhood is full of bars and restaurants that fill up with fans before kick-off.
Shell Energy Stadium guide
Shell Energy Stadium is a compact stadium, where no seat is far from the pitch and the noise builds up easily. That's where we come in, as we have tickets for every Houston match. The stadium is divided into four areas: the East and West Stands and the North and South Ends.
West Stand
This is the stadium's main stand. Although premium areas are spread across different sections of the stadium, this is the sector where most of them, and the most important ones, are found. It sits behind the benches and is also home to the press box. It's the area with the best panoramic view of the pitch and the most comfortable seats in the venue.
East Stand
Being the other side stand, it offers the same quality of visibility, but at a slightly more affordable price. However, this section also has club areas and a special section with pitch-level seats, putting fans just a few metres from the players.
North End
This is the section where the club's supporters' group is based, making it the loudest area of the stadium. It's also the section with the cheapest tickets, so if you want to experience the intensity of the atmosphere up close, this is a great option.
South End
This is the opposite end, with a more family-friendly atmosphere and a few more premium areas. However, its most distinctive feature is an outdoor patio with terrace-style tables, from where watching the match is a different experience altogether.
Which area should you choose?
It's important to be able to make the best decision when booking your Houston tickets. That's why we've put together this table comparing the areas based on the preferences you might have, so you can choose the one that best suits what you're looking for and enjoy your experience to the fullest.
| Priority | Best area | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Best atmosphere | North End | This is where the supporters' group is based, with chanting throughout the match |
| Best visibility | Side stands | As in any stadium, the side stands offer a better view of the whole pitch |
| First-time visit | East Stand / South End | The East Stand is the area with the best balance of price, atmosphere and visibility. The South End offers a different experience on its patio |
| Families with children | South End or East Stand | Both areas offer a more relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere, while still having excellent amenities |
| Tight budget | North End | This is the section with the most affordable tickets |
| See the players up close | East Stand | In its pitch-level section |
| Maximum comfort and exclusivity | West Stand | This section houses most of the premium areas, with the stadium's best amenities |

Other information
Houston Dynamo was formed in 2006 out of the relocation of the San Jose Earthquakes franchise, even inheriting much of that championship-winning squad. To give the team an identity, orange was adopted as its colour, and, like its nickname, it nods to the city's energy industry. The club has built its identity on its connection with Houston's Latino community, one of the largest in the country, which shows in the stands at every match.
Its arrival in the league was startling, winning the MLS Cup in its first two seasons, 2006 and 2007. Two more finals followed, along with a US Open Cup in 2018.
Houston Dynamo honours
Houston was one of the most successful clubs in MLS's first decade, and remains one of the most successful overall. Even so, every season the club looks to reclaim that prominence. Tickets for Houston's matches, from the cheapest to the most exclusive, are available on Livefootballtickets.com.

Rivalries
Main rivalry
The Texas Derby vs FC Dallas
The Texas Derby against FC Dallas is the club's oldest and most intense rivalry, between the two great cities of Texas, contested for the El Capitán trophy, which isn't a traditional trophy at all, but a replica of the artillery cannons used in the American Civil War.
Secondary rivalry
The Copa Texas vs Austin FC
Besides the derby against Dallas, they compete for the Copa Texas, a trophy contested every season by the state's three clubs, with Austin FC as the third contender, decided on the head-to-head balance of results each year.
