Stadium information
Name:
Lumen Field
Capacity:
37,722 (MLS capacity)
Address:
800 Occidental Avenue South, Seattle, WA 98134, USA
Description:
Lumen Field has been home to Seattle Sounders since their MLS debut in 2009, and it's shared with the NFL's Seattle Seahawks. The stadium sits in the heart of downtown, next to the SoDo neighbourhood, and is famous for its acoustics. The design of its cantilevered roofs sends the noise back down onto the pitch, making it one of the loudest venues in the country. For MLS matches, a reduced-capacity configuration is used, with 37,700 of the venue's 68,700 seats, although the club opens the full capacity for its biggest matches, where crowds have topped 65,000.
The best way to get to Lumen Field
Once you have your tickets for a Seattle match, you'll need to work out how to get to the stadium. Here are some options to help you decide which one suits you best.
By light rail
Stadium Station, on Line 1 of the Link Light Rail, drops you off practically at the gates of the venue, connecting with downtown Seattle and the airport, which makes it the most recommended option.
On foot
Being right in the heart of downtown, you can reach it from anywhere in the city centre in about twenty minutes. In fact, it's a very pleasant walk, going through Pioneer Square, where many fans gather before heading to the stadium.
By train and bus
King Street Station, with the Sounder commuter trains and regional bus routes, is right next to the stadium and is the best alternative if you're arriving from other towns.
Lumen Field guide
Lumen Field is considered one of the best stadiums in the league for experiencing a football match, despite having been designed for the NFL. The stands are very close to the pitch and its acoustics create a great atmosphere, not to mention its passionate fanbase that turns out in huge numbers for every match. That's where we come in, since we have tickets for every Seattle match. The stadium is divided into four zones: Cascade, Olympic, Rainier and Cityside.
Olympic
This is the stand on the west side and could be called the stadium's main stand, since it's the one behind the benches and above the locker room tunnel. From here, visibility of the whole pitch is excellent. This section is also home to the press box and most of the venue's premium areas.
Cascade
This is the stand on the east side and offers the same quality of view as the Olympic section. There are also some club or premium areas on this side, but the general seating is a bit more affordable. From here, when the upper level is open, you can see the Seattle skyline and even Mount Rainier in the background.
Rainier
This is the south end, also known as the Brougham End, and is where the club's supporters' group, the Emerald City Supporters, is based, specifically in sections 121 to 123, in a general-admission area where the chanting doesn't stop for almost the entire match. This stand has become popular for its giant tifos, flares and a march that arrives from Pioneer Square. It's the loudest stand and also the cheapest, so if you don't mind standing for almost the whole match, this could be the place to look for tickets.
Cityside District
This is the north end, where the atmosphere is much calmer and more family-friendly. Tickets here are also more affordable than on the sides. The rake of this section provides very good visibility, with an incline that makes you feel very close to the pitch.
Which zone should you choose?
It's important to be able to make the best decision when booking your Seattle tickets, so we've put together this short table comparing the options based on your preferences, so you can enjoy your experience to the fullest.
| Priority | Best zone | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Best atmosphere | Rainier | This is the stand where the supporters' group is based, making it the loudest section of the stadium |
| Best visibility | Sides | As in any stadium, the side stands offer the best view of the whole pitch |
| First visit | Cascade | This is the section with the best balance of price, atmosphere and visibility |
| Families with children | Cityside District or Cascade | These are the areas with the most relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere, while still offering the venue's excellent services |
| Tight budget | Rainier or Cityside | These are the areas with the most affordable tickets, especially in the upper sections of these stands |
| Maximum comfort and exclusivity | Olympic | This section is home to the boxes and premium suites, with the best services in the stadium |

Brian Schmetzer
Current captain:
Cristian Roldán
Position in MLS last season:
5th, Western Conference. Eliminated in the First Round of the Playoffs
Other information
The name Sounders, a reference to Puget Sound — the body of water on which the city sits — first appeared in 1974, when the club played in the now-defunct NASL. Later, in 2009, the current franchise made its MLS debut and had a serious impact on the league, filling the stadium from its very first match, with attendance figures no club had ever reached before in American football.
The club has an unusual ownership model, as its season-ticket holders take part in decision-making through a periodic vote on whether to keep the sporting leadership in place. On top of that, in 2022 the Sounders won the Concacaf Champions Cup, becoming the first MLS team to do so since 2000, which earned them a place at the 2025 Club World Cup.

The rivalry dates back to their NASL days, making every meeting an intense occasion, marked by spectacular tifos at each game.
