Stadium information
Name:
Bank of America Stadium
Capacity:
74,867 (reduced capacity for most MLS matches)
Address:
800 South Mint Street, Charlotte, NC 28202, United States
Description:
Bank of America Stadium has been Charlotte's home since its MLS debut in 2022, a stadium shared with the NFL's Carolina Panthers. It's located right in the centre of North Carolina, just a few minutes' walk from the financial district and the bars and restaurants of Uptown, making it one of the most accessible stadiums in the whole league. Its capacity of almost 75,000 seats allowed the club to break the MLS attendance record on its very first matchday, coming close to a full house with more than 74,000 spectators. However, for most regular-season fixtures only the lower tier of the venue is opened up.
The best way to get to Bank of America Stadium
Once you have your tickets for a Charlotte match, you'll need to work out how to get to the stadium. Here are a few options to help you decide which one suits you best.
On foot
If you're staying in Uptown, the stadium is less than ten minutes' walk from practically any hotel in the city centre, making this the best way to get there and enjoy the full experience, with the pre-match atmosphere out on the city streets.
By tram and light rail
The LYNX Blue Line light rail has several stops just a few minutes' walk from the stadium, including Carson and Stonewall. Meanwhile, the eastern and western points of the city are connected by the CityLYNX Gold Line tram. Both are very practical options if you're coming from neighbourhoods in these parts of the city.
By bus
The Charlotte Transportation Center, the city's main bus hub, is about ten minutes' walk from the stadium and brings together most of CATS's urban routes, so you can get there from almost anywhere and access the stadium easily.
By bike
The cycle lanes in the city centre and the Rail Trail, which run alongside the light rail line, make getting there by bike very straightforward.
Bank of America Stadium guide
Being an NFL stadium, Bank of America Stadium is one of the largest-capacity venues in MLS, although for Charlotte matches the usual configuration reduces capacity to the lower tiers. That's where we come in, as we have tickets for every Charlotte match. The stadium is organised into four areas: the two ends, East and West, and the two sides, which are sold by tier.
East End
The East End, on its lower tier, is the club's official Supporters Section, home to the club's supporters' groups under the name The Crown, including the Mint City Collective. It's a general admission, first-come-first-served area where fans sing and stand for the full 90 minutes, making it the loudest and one of the most affordable sections of the stadium.
West End
The opposite end has a much calmer, more family-friendly feel, with good value for money behind the goal. That said, it's also home to the stadium's most exclusive premium seating area, The Gallery.
Lower tier sides
The lower tier sides are the area closest to the pitch, without sacrificing visibility of all the action on it. The south side is the main stand, as it's located on the side of the benches and the players' warm-up area. It's the most recommended choice for those visiting the stadium for the first time.
Club Level and upper tier
The "Club Level" is the stadium's middle tier, home to the premium rooms or "lounges", areas with wider seats, climate-controlled indoor spaces and exclusive amenities. On the other hand, the upper tier is the most affordable area, and from its highest point you can see the city skyline, although it's usually the section that's unavailable for Charlotte matches, except for particularly big fixtures.
Which area should you choose?
It's important to be able to choose the area that best suits your preferences so you get the most out of your experience, which is why we've put together this handy table comparing them, so you can pick the area that best fits what you're looking for.
| Priority | Best area | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Best atmosphere | East End | This is the stand where the supporters' groups are based, making it the loudest area throughout the match |
| Best visibility | Sides | The sides offer the best view of the whole pitch. However, as this is a stadium built for the NFL, we recommend choosing seats towards the centre |
| First visit | Lower tier sides | These are the areas with the best balance of price, atmosphere and visibility, letting you make the most of the experience |
| Families with children | West End | This is the area with the calmest, most family-friendly atmosphere, while still offering excellent amenities |
| Tight budget | Ends and upper tier | These are the areas with the most affordable tickets, especially near the corners |
| Get close to the players | South side | This is the area with the seats closest to the benches and the players' warm-up area |
| Maximum comfort and exclusivity | Middle tier (Club Level) | This tier is home to the stadium's premium rooms and lounges |

Other information
Charlotte FC was founded in 2019, when MLS awarded franchise number 30 to businessman David Tepper, owner of the Carolina Panthers. However, the club didn't make its league debut until 2022. Its colours are Carolina blue, black and white, and its crest features a crown, a nod to the Queen City, the city's nickname in honour of Queen Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz.
Its debut was historic. 74,479 spectators at Bank of America Stadium set an MLS regular-season attendance record. Since then, the club has established itself as one of the best-supported sides in the league. It's also known for investing heavily in its academy and its MLS NEXT Pro affiliate side, to bring North Carolina talent through to the first team.
Charlotte FC honours
Having only made its debut in 2022, Charlotte doesn't yet have any silverware in the cabinet. However, the club has already become a regular contender in the fight for MLS Cup playoff spots and takes part in the Leagues Cup against Liga MX sides every summer, meaning high-level matches throughout the season. Tickets for Charlotte matches, from the most affordable to the most exclusive, are available on Livefootballtickets.com.
Rivalries
Main rivalry
The Southeast Derby vs Atlanta United
The clash against Atlanta United is the great derby of the southeast, as the two cities are just over three hours apart by road, a short distance in a country the size of the United States. Both clubs also have two of the biggest fanbases in the league, who travel in large numbers, particularly given a rivalry this close, which has caused the fixture to grow rapidly in intensity.
Minor rivalry
The Queen City Cup vs FC Cincinnati
Charlotte and Cincinnati share the nickname Queen City, which is how the trophy contested between them each season came about. It's a recent rivalry but one with a very strong identity, meaning matches against FC Cincinnati mean more than just three points in the Eastern Conference table.
