Stadium information
Name:
Audi Field
Capacity:
20,000
Address:
100 Potomac Ave SW, Washington, DC 20024, USA
Description:
DC United played for more than two decades at the legendary RFK Stadium, until it moved into Audi Field in 2018, in the Buzzard Point neighbourhood, next to the Anacostia River and just a short walk from downtown Washington. It's a compact stadium, with capacity for 20,000 spectators, purpose-built for football, with stands set very close to the pitch that create a great atmosphere despite its modest size. It has become one of the most convenient stadiums to visit in the whole league thanks to its location, just a few minutes' walk from Nationals Park and the restaurant area of The Wharf.
The best way to get to Audi Field
Once you have your tickets for a DC United match, you'll need to work out how to get to the stadium. Here are a few options to help you find the one that suits you best.
By metro
Both Navy Yard-Ballpark and Waterfront stations are within a 15-minute walk of the stadium, and both are on the Green Line of the Washington Metro, so you can connect directly from downtown.
On foot
From certain parts of the city, such as The Wharf, the walk to Audi Field is just over 20 minutes, following the river — a great option if you want to soak up the atmosphere fans create in the neighbourhood in the hours before kick-off.
Audi Field guide
Audi Field is one of the most compact stadiums in MLS, so practically no seat is far from the pitch and visibility is good from anywhere in the ground. Being a small stadium, tickets can be hard to come by, and that's where we come in, as we have tickets for every DC United match. The stadium is divided into four areas: the East and West Stands and the North and South Ends.
East Stand
This is the stadium's main stand, as it sits behind the benches, and it's also home to the press box, the premium areas and the executive boxes. Being a side stand it offers great visibility, and as it houses the stadium's premium areas, it has the best amenities and the most comfortable seats in the venue.
West Stand
Being the other side stand, it offers the same excellent view of the pitch, but at a somewhat lower price. What's more, from its upper tier you can see the Capitol and the Washington Monument silhouetted in the background, making it the best option for first-time visitors to the stadium.
North End
This is the section where the club's supporters' groups gather, some of the oldest in American football, which makes it the rowdiest section of the stadium. It's also one of the cheapest, so if you don't mind standing for most of the match, this is a good area to look for tickets.
South End
This is the end where the players' tunnel is located, something unusual for a football stadium. In this section the experience is much calmer and more family-friendly, with tickets usually more affordable than those in the side stands.
Which area should you choose?
It's important to be able to make the best decision when booking your DC United tickets. That's why we've put together this table comparing the areas based on the preferences you might have, so you can choose the one that best suits what you're looking for and enjoy your experience to the fullest.
| Priority | Best area | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Best atmosphere | North End | This is where the supporters' groups are based, making it the liveliest area |
| Best visibility | Side stands | The side stands offer a better view of the whole pitch |
| First-time visit | West Stand | It's the area with the best balance of price, atmosphere and visibility, and where you can see the city's monuments |
| Families with children | South End or West Stand | Both areas offer a more relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere, while still having excellent amenities and great visibility |
| Tight budget | End sections | These areas usually have the most affordable tickets, especially in the corners |
| See the players up close | East Stand and South End | The side stand has the seats closest to the benches and the warm-up area, while the South End is where the players enter the tunnel |
| Maximum comfort and exclusivity | East Stand | This section houses the premium areas, with the stadium's best amenities |

Other information
Founded in 1995 as one of the ten founding clubs of MLS, its colours are black and red, while its crest features three stars and an eagle drawn from the flag of the District of Columbia. It's the most successful club in league history, having dominated the competition in its early years in a way no other team has matched since, with figures like Marco Etcheverry, Jaime Moreno and Ben Olsen becoming legends of American football.
In 2018, the club began a new era with the opening of Audi Field, and the arrival of Wayne Rooney, after more than two decades at RFK Stadium. Since then the team has been looking to reclaim the prominence of its early years, backed by one of the loudest and most multicultural fanbases in the league, with a Latino community that has shaped the club's identity since its founding.
