The Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia sits right on the western shore of Lake Como, only minutes on foot from the historic town centre. It was built in 1927 at the request of the town council of the time, for the celebrations honouring Como-born physicist Alessandro Volta, and it is considered one of the earliest examples of rationalist architecture in Italy. It is named after Giuseppe Sinigaglia, a rower and war hero born in Como who died during the First World War. Because of its unique waterside setting, with many stands offering a view over the lake, the famous Italian sports journalist Gianni Brera once called the Sinigaglia the “most beautiful stadium in the world”. Not only the setting itself, also the compact build means you are close to the pitch from almost every seat. Since May 2026, a large-scale renovation of the stadium has been under way, preparing it for possible future international competitions. By Bus

The trip from the city centre takes only a few minutes, depending on traffic, since Como is a fairly compact city. By Car

Como is well connected via the A9 motorway (Milan-Chiasso), which links the city to Switzerland, as well as the A59 (Tangenziale di Como). From the city centre, the stadium is only 1.5 kilometres away, a drive of only a few minutes outside peak hours. Those coming from Milan take the A9 straight towards Como, then follow the signs for the Stadio Sinigaglia. You will find paid parking in the areas around the ground, though capacity is limited given the compact town-centre location. After the final whistle, leaving the area can be a bit of stressful. The Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia is split into four main areas: the Curva Como, the Curva Est, the Distinti Parterre and the Tribuna Coperta. On Como home matchdays, the Curva Como is the club’s own end, while away fans are placed in a separate section of the Curva Est. Club history

Como was founded on 25 May 1907 as Como Foot-Ball Club, by a group of members who met at the Bar Taroni on Via Cinque Giornate in the town centre. Not only its founding year, also its turbulent history, marked by several name changes, makes Como one of Italy’s clubs richest in tradition, but for a long time also one of its most tested. In December 2004, the club went bankrupt and had to start again completely from scratch in Serie D under the name Calcio Como. In spring 2017 came a second bankruptcy, which once again pushed the club to the brink of extinction. Also this is a chapter of the club’s history that makes the current success all the more remarkable.

In 2019, the Indonesian Hartono family, owners of the Djarum Group tobacco company, took over the club right after it won Serie D Group B in 2018-19. What followed is one of the fastest rises in the history of European football: still in Serie D in 2019, already in Serie B by 2021, and back in Serie A in 2024, after 21 years away. But no chapter weighs heavier than the 2025-26 season under Cesc Fàbregas, who took charge of the club in the summer of 2025 on a four-year contract. Como finished the season in 4th place with 71 points, secured by a 4-1 away win at Cremonese on the final matchday, 24 May 2026, qualifying for the UEFA Champions League for the very first time in the club’s history. This 4th-place finish matches the club’s previous best-ever league position, achieved in the 1935-36 season, but the meaning for the club is completely different: instead of a minor historical footnote, it is the start of a new chapter in European football. Fàbregas confirmed shortly after the end of the season that he remains committed to the project: “I am very happy here. I am still learning a lot. We are building a mentality.”

In the Coppa Italia, Como reached the semi-finals, the club’s best ever run in the history of the competition. After a goalless first leg at home at the Sinigaglia on 3 March 2026, the club lost the second leg on 21 April 2026 at the San Siro by 2-3, after Hakan Çalhanoglu scored with a spectacular long-range shot and then a header in the 86th minute, and Petar Sucic finished things off three minutes later in a scramble near the box. Head coach Fàbregas said afterwards that the defeat owed more to Inter’s quality than to any mistake by his own side. Living through a season like that as a supporter can be a bit of stressful, so many emotions all at once, but for Como, 2025-26 was without doubt the most successful season in the club’s history.
