From Southampton city centre it is a short journey to St Mary's Stadium, with several routes passing close to the ground. On matchdays it is easy to follow the crowds heading towards the stadium.
By Car

St Mary's Stadium stadium guide
St Mary's Stadium is one of the most modern and impressive grounds in the Championship. The stadium is divided into four stands: the Itchen Stand, the Kingsland Stand, the Northam Stand and the Chapel Stand. Whichever league Southampton are playing in, we've got you covered with tickets for every Saints match.
Itchen Stand
The Itchen Stand is the main stand at St Mary's Stadium, named after the River Itchen which runs nearby. Running the full length of the pitch on the east side, it is the largest stand at the ground and houses the press box, the executive boxes, the directors' facilities and the club's hospitality lounges. It offers some of the best views in the stadium across the entire pitch, so if you want comfort and a great vantage point, this is the place to look.
Kingsland Stand
Opposite the Itchen Stand you'll find the Kingsland Stand, running along the west side of the pitch. This stand is home to many of Southampton's most loyal and vocal supporters and is where you'll find the club's most passionate fans in full voice. It is one of the most atmospheric parts of the ground on a matchday and is at the heart of the St Mary's experience.
Northam Stand
Behind one of the goals sits the Northam Stand, which is home to the most vocal section of the Southampton support. This stand houses the dugouts and technical areas, so you'll be close to the managers and can watch the players warming up from up close. It keeps a boisterous feel and is one of the most atmospheric spots in the stadium on a matchday.
Chapel Stand
Behind the other goal sits the Chapel Stand, one of the more characterful parts of the ground. This stand is where away supporters are housed for Southampton home matches. If you're following your team to St Mary's, this is the section to look for – remember to select the "away end" or away section when booking. It's also one of the noisiest parts of the ground on a big matchday.
Which stand should you choose?
It's important to be able to make the best decision when booking your Southampton tickets. That's why we've created this table with a quick comparison of all four stands. Check what's important to you and you will find the best stand for your wishes.
| Priority | Best Stand | Why |

Rivalries
Main Rivals
South Coast Derby against Portsmouth
The fiercest rivalry Southampton have is with Portsmouth, with the match between the two known as the South Coast Derby. The rivalry comes from the fact that both clubs share the south coast of England and have competed for local supremacy for well over a century. Even when the two clubs aren't in the same division, the derby remains one of the most passionately contested fixtures in English football, and fans of both teams can't wait for it to return.
Minor Rivals
Brighton & Hove Albion
The rivalry with Brighton & Hove Albion is a strong regional one rooted in close geography and long-running competition along the south coast. The two clubs don't meet as often as they once did, as they have frequently found themselves in different divisions, and fixtures between sides in different leagues tend to keep rivalries a little less heated. Even so, a meeting between Southampton and Brighton always carries a bit of extra edge.
