Arsenal extend lead to nine points

Arsenal moved nine points clear at the top of the Premier League with a comfortable win over Sunderland, while Cole Palmer scored a first-half hattrick for Chelsea and Manchester United claimed a fourth consecutive victory under Michael Carrick.

Arsenal 3-0 Sunderland: Gunners cruise to victory

Arsenal maintained their relentless title charge with a straightforward 3-0 win over Sunderland at the Emirates Stadium.

Mikel Arteta's side were patient against a well-organised Sunderland defence before Martín Zubimendi broke the deadlock late in the first half. The Spanish midfielder's strike deflected off the inside of the post and past goalkeeper Robin Roefs.

Substitute Viktor Gyökeres killed the game in the final quarter with two clinical finishes to complete the scoring. The Swedish striker continues to prove a valuable option from the bench.

Jurriën Timber completed 90 minutes for Arsenal, while Brian Brobbey started up front for the visitors. Lutsharel Geertruida came off the bench in the second half for Sunderland.

The victory takes Arsenal to 56 points from 25 matches – nine clear of Manchester City, who face Liverpool on Sunday.

Chelsea 3-1 Wolverhampton: Palmer hattrick in 38 minutes

Chelsea demolished Wolverhampton Wanderers at Stamford Bridge thanks to a brilliant first-half hattrick from Cole Palmer.

The England international was in devastating form, completing his treble inside 38 minutes. Palmer converted two penalties before adding a third from open play to put the game beyond Wolves before half-time.

The visitors pulled one back but it was mere consolation as Chelsea secured all three points to strengthen their grip on fifth place. Jorrel Hato came off the bench in the closing stages for the Blues.

Manchester United 2-0 Tottenham: Carrick's winning run continues

Manchester United made it four wins in a row under interim manager Michael Carrick with a deserved victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford.

The match turned in the 29th minute when Cristian Romero was sent off for a dangerous tackle on Casemiro. It was the Argentine defender's sixth red card since joining Spurs in August 2021.

Bryan Mbeumo capitalised on the numerical advantage, firing United ahead before half-time with his ninth league goal of the season. Bruno Fernandes wrapped up the victory with eight minutes remaining.

Micky van de Ven and Xavi Simons both started for Tottenham despite the defeat. Joshua Zirkzee and Noussair Mazraoui came off the bench for United in the closing stages, with Matthijs de Ligt missing through a back injury and Tyrell Malacia an unused substitute.

The victory cements United's hold on fourth place as Carrick continues to revive the club's fortunes following Rúben Amorim's departure.
