Go Ahead Eagles was founded in 1902 in the city of Deventer, making it one of the oldest football clubs in the Netherlands. Known affectionately as "De Adelaars" (The Eagles) by their supporters, the club has spent much of its history alternating between the Eredivisie and Eerste Divisie, but has built a loyal following in Deventer that has stuck with the club through both good times and difficult ones.
