Feyenoord was founded in 1908 in the Feijenoord district of Rotterdam, originally under the name Wilhelmina before being renamed Feijenoord a few years later. The club is proud of its working-class Rotterdam roots, in contrast to the more middle-class image often associated with rivals from Amsterdam. Feyenoord remain the only Dutch club to have won the European Cup, doing so in 1970, and their motto "Geen woorden maar daden" ("No words but deeds") still captures the club's identity today.
