The MHPArena, known for many years as the Mercedes-Benz Arena and before that as the Gottlieb-Daimler-Stadion, has been the home of VfB Stuttgart since 1933. The stadium sits in the Bad Cannstatt district of Stuttgart, surrounded by the park and fairground area known as the Cannstatter Wasen. It has been rebuilt and expanded several times, most recently as part of the preparations for the 2006 World Cup. On 19 September 2024, the MHPArena hosted its first Champions League match in over a decade when VfB Stuttgart played Real Madrid, and the atmosphere that night was unlike anything the stadium had produced in years. The stadium holds 60,449 spectators, making it one of the bigger grounds in the Bundesliga.

By S-Bahn

From Stuttgart Hauptbahnhof the journey takes around 8 minutes. On matchdays the trains run very frequently and you will find plenty of fans in the red and white of VfB Stuttgart heading in the same direction. After the match, the platforms fill up quickly, so expect to wait for one or two trains before boarding.
By U-Bahn
The U-Bahn lines U11 and U12 also connect the city centre directly to the Cannstatter Wasen area right next to the MHPArena. U11 operates as a special match-day service on a lot of game days. Cannstatter Kurve (South Stand)

This is where the ultras group “Schwaben” and the most vocal supporters take seat, and where the atmosphere is loudest from the first minute to the last. Haupttribüne (Main Stand / West)
Along one side of the pitch you will find the Haupttribüne. This is the main stand of the MHPArena with the press box, VIP lounges and the corporate hospitality areas. For the premium experience you can take seat in the business class sections on the middle tier. In the Haupttribüne it’s a bit more about the luxury and a bit less about the football atmosphere. Gegengerade (East Stand)
On the opposite site of the Haupttribüne, you will find the Gegengerade. Also this stand has good sightlines across the full width of the pitch. Club history
VfB Stuttgart was founded in 1893, making it one of the oldest football clubs in Germany. The club’s full name is “Verein für Bewegungsspiele Stuttgart 1893 e.V.”, and it has been part of the Stuttgart sporting landscape for well over 130 years. The club won their most recent Bundesliga title in 2007, but the period that followed was a difficult one. Stuttgart were relegated twice in quick succession in 2016 and 2019, which was a shock for a club of their stature. The most recent chapter of Stuttgart’s story is however a very positive one. Under the management of Sebastian Hoeneß, who took charge in the summer of 2023, the club went from almost being relegated in the first half of the season to finishing second in the Bundesliga and returning to Champions League football. On 18 May 2024, Stuttgart’s place in the Champions League was confirmed at the Allianz Arena. It was one of the great turnaround stories of recent German football. Stuttgart then finished 4th in the Bundesliga in 2025-26, confirming their place as a regular top-four club in Germany.
