The former fort city of the Holy Roman Empire, situated on the banks of River Rhine, Mainz is the city where movable-type printing press was invented and made popular by Gutenberg in 1450s. Fußball- und Sportverein Mainz 05 is gracing the city's football history since the day it was formed, back on March 16, 1905. Despite their struggle of sustaining their form and place in Bundesliga, the Carnival Club always managed garnering support from their loyal fan base who bought Mainz football tickets eagerly and cheered on. They were rewarded by occasional success as recently as in 2010. The city, though, hosts plenty of matches involving the home team or otherwise in the famous Coface Arena. Football matches in Mainz used to take place in Stadion am Bruchweg but was replaced with the establishment of 26,000 capacity Coface Arena.
