Stadium information
Name:
BORUSSIA-PARK
Capacity:
54,057
Address:
Hennes-Weisweiler-Allee 1, 41179 Mönchengladbach, Germany
Description:
The BORUSSIA-PARK opened on 30 July 2004 and replaced the old Bökelbergstadion, which had been the home of Borussia Mönchengladbach for almost half a century. The old ground had simply no room to grow and was no longer meeting the requirements for modern football. The new stadium was built on the western edge of the city and holds 54.057 spectators, with 16.145 of those places in the standing terraces for the most passionate home supporters. Not only is the capacity much bigger than the old ground, also the whole design of the BORUSSIA-PARK creates an atmosphere that most visiting fans talk about for a long time after the match. The stands are steep and close to the pitch, and when the stadium is full you will feel the noise from all four sides at the same time. On European nights and the biggest Bundesliga fixtures, the BORUSSIA-PARK is one of the loudest stadiums in German football.
Best way to travel to BORUSSIA-PARK
When you’ve booked your Borussia Mönchengladbach tickets it’s time to find out how you can get to the stadium. The BORUSSIA-PARK is located on the western side of Mönchengladbach, around 6 kilometres from the city centre. The club advises everybody to use public transport on matchdays. These are the options you have to get to the BORUSSIA-PARK.
By Bus (Matchday Shuttle)
The most convenient way to reach the BORUSSIA-PARK from the city centre is by the matchday bus shuttle. Take bus line 013 from Mönchengladbach Hauptbahnhof and it will bring you directly to the stadium. On matchdays these buses are running very frequently and the journey takes around 20 minutes from the station. You will find a lot of other Gladbach fans on the bus from the very first stop, and also this part of the journey is already part of the matchday experience. Not only does the shuttle run before the match, also after the final whistle extra services are added to handle the large amount of supporters leaving the stadium at the same time.
By Train
Mönchengladbach Hauptbahnhof has good rail connections to several major cities in the region. From Düsseldorf you can reach Mönchengladbach in around 30 minutes by S-Bahn or regional train. From Cologne it is around 45 minutes by regional express. Also from Aachen, Krefeld and Venlo in the Netherlands, Mönchengladbach is reachable by direct train. From Hauptbahnhof you then take the matchday bus as described above. On matchdays you will find extra train services on the schedule and a very mixed group of supporters arriving from different directions at the station.
By Car
The BORUSSIA-PARK is located directly next to the A61 motorway, which makes it one of the easiest Bundesliga stadiums to reach by car from the motorway network. Several large car parks are available around the ground. On matchdays you need to count on some traffic in the area, especially in the hour before kick-off. Also the journey out after the final whistle can take some time when the stadium is sold out. When you are coming from far away by car, the combination of train to Mönchengladbach and then matchday bus is often faster in the end.
By Bicycle
From Mönchengladbach city centre the BORUSSIA-PARK is reachable by bicycle in around 25 minutes. The route takes you through the western part of the city and is easy to navigate. On the bicycle you’ve got all the freedom you need. You avoid all the traffic and the crowded buses around kick-off time. Bicycle parking you will find directly outside the stadium on matchdays. Also from some of the surrounding towns and villages the cycling distance to the BORUSSIA-PARK is very reasonable.
BORUSSIA-PARK guide
The BORUSSIA-PARK has four stands with steep terraces that bring you very close to the pitch. The 54.057 seats are divided between the Nordkurve, the Südkurve, the Westtribüne and the Osttribüne.
Nordkurve (North Stand)
The Nordkurve is where you will find the most passionate Borussia Mönchengladbach supporters. The ultras and the most active home fans take seat in the standing section of the Nordkurve, where the atmosphere is more intense than anywhere else in the whole BORUSSIA-PARK. The steep design means the noise from the Nordkurve stays inside the stadium and travels across to the other stands very fast. When Gladbach score a goal, you will feel the Nordkurve lift the entire ground with them in a way that is very difficult to describe from outside. Also this stand is where the singing starts from the very first minute, and it barely stops until after the final whistle. If you want to experience the real Borussia Mönchengladbach, you need to take seat in the Nordkurve.
Südkurve (South Stand)
On the opposite site of the Nordkurve, you will find the Südkurve. Also this stand has strong home support in the main sections, with the away fans placed in a clearly separated block at the top of the stand. The Südkurve is slightly more affordable than the side stands and you will get a very good view of the whole pitch from here. During the bigger Bundesliga matches and the European nights, you will feel the tight, enclosed atmosphere of the BORUSSIA-PARK most clearly from the Südkurve, because you can see both the Nordkurve and the Westtribüne in full noise from this position.
Westtribüne (Main Stand / West)
Along the west side of the pitch you will find the Westtribüne. This is the main stand of the BORUSSIA-PARK with the press area, the VIP sections and the main corporate hospitality. For the premium experience you can take seat in the business seats in the upper levels of the Westtribüne. In the Westtribüne you will have the best sightlines in the whole stadium, with a very clear view along the full length of the pitch from your seat. It is a bit more about the comfort here and a bit less about the loudest atmosphere, but on a big matchday you will still feel the full noise from the Nordkurve directly across the pitch.
Osttribüne (East Stand)
On the opposite site of the Westtribüne, you will find the Osttribüne. Also this stand gives you very good sightlines along the full length of the pitch. It is slightly more affordable than the Westtribüne and a very popular choice for regular supporters who want a reliable view at a fair price. From the Osttribüne you will have a very good overview of the whole BORUSSIA-PARK, with both the Nordkurve and the Südkurve clearly visible from here. Also this is a very good first choice for people who come to Mönchengladbach for the first time and want to take in the full picture of the stadium.
Which stand should you choose?
Not every stand gives you the same experience in the BORUSSIA-PARK. It is important to pick the right one before you book. We made this table so you can compare all four stands in one quick look. Check what matters to you and you will find the right stand.
| Priority | Best Stand | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Best atmosphere | Nordkurve Standing | Ultras section, loudest part of the stadium |
| Best view | Westtribüne Central | Full pitch sightlines, premium comfort |
| First-time visitor | Osttribüne or Westtribüne Lower | Good overview, comfortable, full stadium visible |
| Families with children | Westtribüne Lower | Quieter, good facilities, comfortable seating |
| Budget-conscious | Südkurve Upper | Good value, strong atmosphere, decent view |
| Singing & standing | Nordkurve Standing | Expect to stand for the full 90 minutes |
| See the players close | Westtribüne Lower Central | Closest to dugouts, touchline views |
| Premium comfort | Westtribüne VIP | Hospitality lounges, padded seating, catering included |

Club history
Borussia Mönchengladbach was founded on 1 August 1900. The city is Mönchengladbach, in North Rhine-Westphalia. For many decades after that the club was active in the lower regional divisions of German football. Nothing very special happened. The Bundesliga started in 1963. Then Hennes Weisweiler arrived as head coach in 1964. What came next nobody had expected. Five Bundesliga titles in seven years. Between 1970 and 1977. Not only that, also Gladbach won the UEFA Cup two times and played in the European Cup final. On 25 May 1977 they played that final in Rome against Liverpool. The result was 1–3. A loss that still hurts in Mönchengladbach. The squad from those years had Günter Netzer, Berti Vogts, Jupp Heynckes, Rainer Bonhof and also the Danish forward Allan Simonsen. In 1977 Simonsen won the Ballon d’Or. He was the first non-German ever to do so. You will find these names in football history books from every country in Europe. After the golden years, harder times came for the club. In 1999 Gladbach were even relegated from the Bundesliga. For a club with this history that was very painful. But they came back. In the 2010s under Lucien Favre and later Dieter Hecking, they were a regular European side again. Not only Granit Xhaka and Thorgan Hazard wore the Gladbach shirt in those years, also Lars Stindl and Patrick Herrmann were very important for the club. Eugen Polanski guided Gladbach through the 2025-26 Bundesliga season. They finished 12th. He confirmed he would stay on as head coach.
German influences
Borussia Mönchengladbach has always had a strong German identity. The club is rooted in Mönchengladbach and in the Lower Rhine region. This goes back over 120 years. Not only does the academy produce players for the first team, also several graduates have gone on to represent the German national team. Tim Kleindienst is the current captain. He arrived from 1. FC Heidenheim in the summer of 2024 and quickly became one of the most important players in the squad. His goals and his leadership are two things the supporters appreciate very much. Also the nickname Die Fohlen, which means “The Foals” in English, has roots in the 1970s golden era. It never went away. When you come to Mönchengladbach for a match, you will feel quite fast that the bond between the people here and their club is something very different to what you find in bigger football cities. It is more personal here.
Borussia Mönchengladbach Honours & Trophies

Rivalries
Main Rivals
Rhine Derby against 1. FC Köln
Ask any Gladbach supporter what the most important match of the season is and the answer is always the same. The Rhine Derby against 1. FC Köln. The two clubs are separated by only about 50 kilometres and the history between them is long, emotional and very competitive. Both clubs were at the top of German football at similar periods, and the rivalry became intense in the 1970s when they were regularly competing for the same Bundesliga titles and European places. Also the cultural difference between the two cities adds an extra edge to this derby. When Gladbach and Köln meet, you will feel the intensity from the very first minute until well after the final whistle. For many supporters of both clubs, this match means more than almost any other fixture of the season.
Minor Rivalries
Rivalry with Bayer Leverkusen
The rivalry with Bayer Leverkusen is another important one for Gladbach supporters. Both clubs come from the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and they have been regular Bundesliga sides competing for similar positions in the table for many years. Not only is there a sporting competition between the two clubs, also the contrasting identities of a community club and a works club backed by a pharmaceutical company give this fixture an ideological dimension that supporters on both sides are aware of.
Rivalry with Fortuna Düsseldorf
When Fortuna Düsseldorf are in the same division as Borussia Mönchengladbach, the derby between the two clubs carries strong regional pride. Düsseldorf is the closest major city to Mönchengladbach and the history between the two clubs goes back to the early days of German professional football. Also this fixture always brings extra motivation from both sides, and you will find that a Gladbach vs Düsseldorf match has a very different atmosphere to the regular Bundesliga fixtures.
