Capacity:

Address:

Bismarckstraße 122–124, 51373 Leverkusen, Germany

Description:

The BayArena has been the home of Bayer Leverkusen since 1958, though the stadium has been rebuilt and expanded several times since then. The current modern structure was completed in 2009. On 14 April 2024, the BayArena witnessed history when Bayer Leverkusen clinched the Bundesliga title against Werder Bremen, ending their wait for a first ever German league championship. It was a night nobody inside the stadium will ever forget. The stadium holds 30,210 spectators, and almost every single one of those seats is sold out every matchday.

Best way to travel to BayArena

When you’ve booked your Bayer Leverkusen tickets it’s time to find out how you can get to the stadium. The club advises everybody to take public transport. These are the options you can use to get to the BayArena.

By S-Bahn

The S6 line is the easiest way to reach the BayArena from both Cologne and Düsseldorf. From Cologne Hauptbahnhof, take the S6 in the direction of Düsseldorf and get off at Leverkusen Mitte. From there it is a short bus or tram ride to the stadium. The journey from Cologne takes around 20 minutes. From Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof, take the S6 towards Cologne and also get off at Leverkusen Mitte. This journey takes around 25 minutes.

By Bus

From Leverkusen Mitte station you will find several bus connections to the BayArena. Bus line 201 stops close to the stadium. On matchdays there are extra services running and you will always find plenty of other fans heading in the same direction. Bus is also a good option if you are staying somewhere in Leverkusen itself and don’t want to use the S-Bahn.

By Tram

The tram line 4 connects Cologne with Leverkusen and stops at Leverkusen Mitte. From there you can connect to a bus towards the BayArena. The tram is a relaxed and scenic way to arrive, particularly if you are coming from the direction of Cologne city centre. On matchdays you will find the tram filling up with Bayer Leverkusen fans from several stops before the ground.

By Bicycle

Cycling to the BayArena is a realistic option for fans staying in Leverkusen. The city has a reasonable cycling network and the stadium is not far from the town centre. You can lock your bicycle in the designated areas outside the ground. On the bicycle you’ve got all the freedom you need. You can surpass traffic jams and avoid crowded public transport after the match.

BayArena guide

The BayArena is a compact and atmospheric stadium. With 30,210 seats it is one of the smaller Bundesliga grounds, but also one of the most intense. The tight stands mean the atmosphere is concentrated and every seat feels close to the action. The stadium is divided into four stands: the Nordkurve, the Gästeblock, the Haupttribüne and the Gegengerade.

Nordkurve (North Stand)

The Nordkurve is where the most passionate Bayer Leverkusen fans take seat. This is the home of the club’s ultras and the loudest supporters in the BayArena. The Nordkurve has a standing section in the lower tier which creates an intense atmosphere throughout the match. When you want to experience the real Bayer Leverkusen, you need to look for Nordkurve tickets. Whenever Leverkusen play towards this goal, you will feel the noise coming from behind you and all around you. Also this stand is located directly behind one of the goals, so you will get the best view of all the action in front of the Nordkurve end.

Gästeblock (Away End)

On the opposite site of the Nordkurve, you will find the away section. Also this part of the stadium has standing places in the lower tier. Away fans are placed in the upper and lower sections of the Gästeblock. Especially during the rivalry matches against Cologne or the big European nights, you will feel the contrast between the home and away ends very clearly from this part of the ground.

Haupttribüne (Main Stand)

Along one side of the pitch you will find the Haupttribüne. This is the main stand of the BayArena, with the press box, corporate hospitality and the best executive seating. For the premium experience, you can take seat in the business class sections on the middle tier. In the Haupttribüne it’s a bit more about the luxury and a bit less about the football atmosphere. But you know for sure you will have one of the best views of the pitch in the whole stadium.

Gegengerade (Opposite Stand)

On the opposite site of the Haupttribüne, you will find the Gegengerade. Also this stand has good sightlines across the pitch from end to end. It is slightly more affordable than the Haupttribüne and still gives you an excellent view of the full width of the pitch. The Gegengerade is a popular choice for away visitors who are not placed in the Gästeblock, and also for neutral fans who want to take in the atmosphere without being in the thick of the Nordkurve.

Which stand should you choose?

It’s important to be able to make the best decision when booking your Bayer Leverkusen tickets. That’s why we’ve created this table with a quick comparison about all four stands. Check what’s important to you and you will find the best stand for your wishes.

Priority Best Stand Why
Best atmosphere Nordkurve Lower Home ultras, standing section, loudest part of the ground

Club history

Bayer Leverkusen was founded in 1904 as a sports club for the employees of the Bayer pharmaceutical company. The connection to the company is right there in the name, and it remains one of the defining characteristics of the club to this day. The full name “Turn- und Sportverein Bayer 04 Leverkusen” tells you everything: this is a club that grew out of a factory, not out of a neighbourhood. For decades Bayer Leverkusen were known as a solid Bundesliga club who could reach finals but never quite win them. The nickname “Neverkusen” was born in the painful 2001-2002 season, when the club finished second in the Bundesliga on the final day, lost the DFB-Pokal final, and then lost the Champions League final to Real Madrid in Glasgow on 15 May 2002. Three finals, zero trophies. It is a season that still haunts the club’s history. All of that changed completely in 2023-2024 under Xabi Alonso, when Leverkusen became Bundesliga champions without losing a single game in the entire season. Xabi Alonso departed for Real Madrid in the summer of 2025. Florian Wirtz joined Liverpool and Granit Xhaka moved to Sunderland. A complete rebuild followed, and Leverkusen finished 6th in the 2025-26 Bundesliga. Carles Martínez Novell was appointed as the new head coach ahead of the 2026-27 season.

German influences

Bayer Leverkusen has always mixed German talent with international quality. Granit Xhaka, who joined from Arsenal in 2023, became the heart and soul of the historic title-winning squad. Also Florian Wirtz, born just outside of Cologne, grew up in the Leverkusen academy and developed into one of the most exciting German players in Europe during his time at the BayArena. Not only did Wirtz come through the club’s own youth system, also his development into a world-class talent happened entirely under the Leverkusen coaching staff. Both Xhaka and Wirtz have since left the club, and Robert Andrich has become the new captain and the leader of the squad. His competitive mentality and his reading of the game are two things the supporters appreciate very much. The academy at Leverkusen has a strong reputation for producing technically gifted players, and you will find several examples of that in the current first-team squad.

Bayer Leverkusen Honours & Trophies

Rivalries

Main Rivals

Rhineland Derby against 1. FC Köln

The Rhineland derby between Bayer Leverkusen and 1. FC Köln is the biggest local rivalry in this part of Germany. Leverkusen and Cologne are separated by around 25 kilometres, and the fixture carries all the intensity you would expect from a derby between two clubs from the same region. Köln fans see themselves as the real working-class club of the Rhine area, while Leverkusen are often mocked for their company connections. In return, Leverkusen fans have enjoyed the success of recent years while Köln have spent time in the second division. Whenever both clubs are in the Bundesliga at the same time, this fixture is one of the most charged atmospheres in German football.

Minor Rivalries

Title rivalry with Bayern München

The rivalry between Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern München has intensified enormously in recent years. Before 2024, Bayern had won the Bundesliga eleven times in a row. Leverkusen’s unbeaten title win ended that dominance, and the edge between the two clubs in the title race has been very sharp ever since. It is not a geographical rivalry, but in terms of what is at stake in this fixture, it now rivals any derby in the German game.

Rivalry with Borussia Dortmund

The rivalry with Borussia Dortmund has also grown over the last few years. Both clubs position themselves as the main challenger to Bayern München, and when they meet there is always a lot riding on the result in terms of the title race and Champions League qualification. The fixture is always competitive and physical, and you will find both sets of fans extremely motivated for this one.

Frequently Asked Questions about Bayer Leverkusen tickets

Frequently Asked Questions about Bayer Leverkusen tickets

Bayer Leverkusen away tickets are a bit harder to find than tickets for home matches. This is due to the fact that there is much more space for home fans in the BayArena, than there is for Leverkusen fans in every Bundesliga stadium. We managed to get our hands on Bayer Leverkusen football tickets for almost every Bundesliga match. Select the away match you want to attend and then look at the ticket inventory. All our away match tickets are labelled. The most used labels for Leverkusen’s away matches are: Leverkusen section, Away section, Bayer fans section and away end. When the section label isn’t similar to these labels, the tickets are for the home team.
