Rivalries
Main Rivals
Rennes
Stade Rennais FC and Stade Brestois 29 have a relationship marked by camaraderie rather than a fierce rivalry. The two clubs have spent fifteen seasons together in Ligue 1 and primarily seek to proudly represent Brittany, without a rivalry for regional supremacy. Unlike the more tense encounters with Nantes or Guingamp, matches between Rennes and Brest are generally more amicable.
Guingamp
The rivalry between Brest and Guingamp is one of the most intense. It originated in 1991 when Brest was put into liquidation. Brest fans accuse Noël Le Graët, then president of the National Football League and also president of Guingamp, of influencing this decision to weaken regional competition. Matches between these two teams are often very tense, requiring a significant police presence. A notable incident occurred on November 30, 1991, when Brest fans stormed the pitch during a match against Guingamp.
Lorient
The rivalry between Lorient and Brest began in the mid-2000s after an incident involving the theft of an Ultras Brestois 90 banner by the Merlus Ultras. Tensions escalated during the 2010-2011 season when Brest was promoted to Ligue 1 before being relegated in 2012-2013. A particularly memorable match took place in Ligue 2 on November 18, 2017, where Lorient beat Brest 4-2, marking a peak in this rivalry.
