Champions League Update: Real Madrid 8 - 0 Malmo FF

CHELSEA, ARSENAL, MAN CITY, BARCA, REAL MADRID, PSG GO ON TO CHAMPIONS LEAGUE ROUND OF 16

Cristiano Ronaldo scored a whopping four goals for Real Madrid as Los Blancos absolutely destroyed Malmo 8-0 in their final Champions League Group A match at Santiago Bernabeu.

Real Madrid goals came from Karim Benzema 13, 24, 73; Cristiano Ronaldo 38, 47, 50, 59; and Mateo Kovacic 70 as the titan club made it through to the last 16 of the 2015 – 2016 UEFA Champions League tournament.

Cristiano Ronaldo set a new record for goals scored in the Champions League Group Stage when CR7 scored four against Malmo on Tuesday.

Portugal superstar striker Ronaldo scored all four goals in only 22 minutes.

Karim Benzema opened the scoring with two goals for Real Madrid.

Benzema scored his third at 73 minutes with a final score of 8-0 Real.

Ballon d’Or holder Ronaldo, in his fifth consecutive Champions League campaign, has set an all-time Champions League scoring record of 88 goals total to date.

Ronaldo’s first goal, a free kick, was only the 3rd free kick he has scored in his last 97 attempts in all competitions.

Ronaldo on fire set up the two goals scored by Karim Benzema and Mateo Kovavic putting Real ahead 7-0 in the 70th minute.

Benzema finished the amazing Real rout with his third goal 16 minutes from time.

Real Madrid finished the group stage with 16 points in Group A.

Real Madrid French striker Karim Benzema faces possible charges of "complicity in a blackmail attempt" and has been left of the France national team until the matter is settled in court which may be after EURO 2016.

The stunning victory is a feather in the cap of Real Madrid manager Rafael Benítez.

Paris St Germain finished with 13 points in second place in Group A after PSG defeated Shakhtar Donetsk 2-0 in Paris.

FC Chelsea earned their spot in the Round of 16 of the Champions League with a convincing 2-0 win against Porto at Stamford Bridge in their most impressive performance of this campaign.

England Premier League club FC Arsenal went through to the knock-out stage after defeating Olympiakos 0-3 in an excellent display of talent with a hat-trick of goals from Olivier Giroud (at 29, 49, and 67 Pen), and quality performances by Campbell, Ozil, Koscielny and Mertesacker reaching the Round of 16 for the 16th year in a row.

A surprise was that English Premier League club Manchester United failed to secure a spot, lacking vital points from their final group match.


Champions League Draw 2015 - 2016: Round of 16

The Round of 16 first legs will be played on February 16-17 and 23-24. The return second legs will be played on March 8-9 and 15-16.

The round of 16 draw in Nyon takes place on Monday, December 14th. The eight group winners are all seeded. No side can be drawn against a club from the same country, or the same group.

Holders Barcelona are among the seven past winners. Two seeding pots have been formed: one consisting of group winners and the other of runners-up.

Due to a decision by the UEFA Executive Committee, clubs from Russia and Ukraine are not allowed to compete.

The draw for the Champions League Quarter-finals will be held on 18 March with the Champions League Semi-final fixtures drawn on 15 April.
