Etihad Stadium Seating Plan: Get To The Right Spot

It has 53,400 supporters in four stands and is one of the biggest club grounds in English football. Built to host the 2002 Commonwealth Games, its football facilities have been in use since 2003. The Guide to Man City tickets Your visit to Etihad.

South Stand (Away Section)

The largest single-tier stand in English football, the South Stand stretches its entire length on the pitch. This is the section which visiting fans take up in the corner in particular, and is the “home section.”

Atmosphere: Good atmosphere as at heart of the home South Stand is more in the lower block, very close to the Colin Bell Stand. The massive size of the stand can mean sounds, sometimes, can become diffused.

Best for: Fans who want big crowds; people looking for value Tickets; families who want a less charged scene.

Consider if: You’re looking for superb viewlines on a single-tier view, or you’re going with lower-school children who might find the louder stands overwhelming.

View: Back of the goal and really nice unobstructed views because of that single-tier design. The absence of supporting pillars means each seat receives a direct line of sight.

Sections breakdown:

  • Blocks 101-108 (Lower): Closest proximity to pitch level, good for player detail
  • Blocks 201-214 (Upper): Elevated View, Good for seeing tactical patterns
  • Away Section: Located in the south-east corner (blocks nearest the East Stand)

Tip: Even the back rows of a single-tier South Stand have an unexpectedly good view in fact.

North Stand

The North Stand opposite the South Stand is home to many of Manchester City's most fervent supporters. That's where much of the atmosphere is created at the Etihad.

Atmosphere: The more rowdy seat at the Etihad Stadium. The North Stand is home to 1894 Group – the official fan group of the city’s football team to help uplift the atmosphere at matchday. Songs frequently began from here and then spread around the space.

Best for: Die-hard City fans interested in singing all match, supporters who care more about atmosphere than comfort, those who seek a genuine Etihad atmosphere.

Consider if: You want to cheer on the vocal team and don’t mind staying standing for the most part of a match even though you have a seat.

View: Behind the goal view.

Great for near goal-scoring action with City attacking towards that end (usually second half for big fixtures). For South Stand action, it’s further away.

Sections breakdown:

  • Level 1 (Blocks 101 to 110): Strong heart of atmosphere for 1894 Group
  • Level 2 (Blocks 201 to 212): Nice atmosphere, much better overall view of the play
  • Level 3 (Blocks 301-314): The top tier, panoramic views all over stadium

Tip: Block 111 and the surrounding sections in Level 1 house the most vocal fans. If you want to deliver the song “Blue Moon” from the top of your lungs, this is where it fits.

East Stand

The East Stand lines up along the side of the pitch with superior sideline views. The three-tiered stand features both pitch-side seating and panoramic elevation views.

Atmosphere: More subdued than the North Stand but still alert. That combination of general admission and hospitality areas means that atmosphere can differ from section to section.

Best for: Fans wanting excellent sideline views, those seeking a balance between atmosphere and comfort, hospitality guests, first-time visitors.

Consider if: You want to see both goals clearly and appreciate the full tactical picture of the match.

View: Superb sideline perspective. Central sections provide arguably the best pure football views in the stadium – perfect for witnessing Guardiola’s complex passing play as it unfolds.

Sections breakdown:

  • Level 1: Near pitch level, nice for observing players and listening to on-the-field communication
  • Level 2: Popular hospitality tier with lounges and high quality seating
  • Level 3: Elevated views ideal to enjoy City tactical play

Tip: East Stand Level 3 central blocks offer real value — high enough to catch Guardiola patterns, central enough to see perfect sightlines.

Colin Bell Stand (West Stand)

Named after Manchester City legend Colin Bell – "The King of the Kippax" – this stand houses the players' tunnel, dugouts, directors' box, and main TV cameras. It’s the beating heart of the Etihad Stadium.

Atmosphere: Similar to East Stand – engaged but not as vocal as the North Stand. The corporate guests, media, and directors' box give a somewhat more subdued vibe to central sections.

Best for: Fans who want to watch players emerge out of the tunnel, dugout reactions fans, premium hospitality guests, photographers, fans of the “TV view” of the match.

Consider if: You want to see Pep Guardiola prowling the technical area or you’re looking for the pre-match tunnel experience.

View: Classic "TV camera" view. Central sections are as strong as East Stand but with tunnel and dugout views.

Sections breakdown:

  • Level 1 Central: Close to the tunnel and dugouts—listen up close as Guardiola gives tactical instructions
  • Level 1 Wings: Good views of the sideline, usually somewhat cheaper than central
  • Level 2: Premium hospitality featuring executive boxes and lounges
  • Level 3: Elevated views; good for photography

Tip: If you are in the Colin Bell Stand Level 1, come early. You will be amazed at watching how the players walk out of the tunnel for warm ups.

Quick Comparison: Which Stand Should You Choose?

Priority Best Stand Why
Best atmosphere North Stand Level 1 Home of the 1894 Group, where songs begin
Best view East/Colin Bell Level 2-3 Central Perfect sideline sightlines
First-time visitor East Stand or Colin Bell Stand Atmosphere and views balance
Families with children South Stand or East Stand Good facilities, less intense atmosphere
Budget-conscious South Stand upper rows Good value, clear sightlines
Singing & standing North Stand Level 1 Expect to be on your feet throughout
See Guardiola up close Colin Bell Stand Level 1 Tunnel and dugout views
Watch the tactics East Stand Level 3 Perfect for appreciating City's playing style

Where Do Away Fans Sit?

Visiting supporters will be allocated a section in the South Stand, in the south-east corner, where the South Stand meets the East Stand.

Away section details:

  • Location: South Stand, south-east corner
  • Capacity: Approximately 3,000 seats (may increase for cup matches)
  • Entrance: Separate entrance via Ashton New Road
  • Facilities: Dedicated concourse with food, drinks, and toilet facilities
  • View: Behind the goal with angled view towards the pitch

Note: Please select "Away Section" or "Man City Section" when booking away tickets for Manchester City games at other stadiums to make sure you are sitting with fellow Citizens.

Accessibility at the Etihad Stadium

Manchester City aims for an inclusive event on match day for everyone. All of the facilities in the Etihad Stadium are universal:

Rivalries

Main Rivals

Manchester United

Manchester United is the most successful team in the country. It was always very painful for Man City fans to see their neighbours doing so well. The better they feel now Manchester City is the best team in the country instead of their arch rivals.

Liverpool

There isn't much history in this rivalry, but results in the last couple of years created a new rivalry. Liverpool always had a big rivalry with Man United, but the last couple of years Man City and Liverpool fight it out for the title. The 2018-19 season was the best example, when Man City beat Liverpool in the titlerace with 98 points against 97 points. The gap between Liverpool and third placed Chelsea was 25 points. In the foreseeable future we can only see this rivalry getting more and more intense.

Your Etihad Stadium Matchday: What to Expect

Manchester City’s home ground since 2003, the Etihad Stadium has evolved from the Commonwealth Games location to one of English football’s contemporary venues. On the main campus at Etihad in east Manchester, your matchday there is set with high-end facilities, but with all the passion that comes from the Sky Blue fanbase. Here's what you need to make the most of your Manchester City time.

When to Arrive

Stadium gates open: 2 hours before kick-off

Recommended arrival times:

  • 3+ hrs ahead: Visit and explore the Etihad Campus, City Store, take a picture at the stadium statues, fan zone
  • 2 hours before: Go into the stadium while gates are open, take in the concourses, see how the pitch is warming up

Our suggestion: Be at least 90 minutes in advance of kick-off. The Etihad Campus has lots to do and see, and the pre-match buildup is all part of the experience.

Pre-Match Traditions

Blue Moon

Manchester City’s classic anthem. “Blue Moon” plays before kick-off and the whole stadium becomes engulfed in the song — just an eerie, spine-tingling moment that became an icon for the club. Since the 1990s, the song has been City’s anthem, and 53,000 voices singing it in unison are unforgettable.

The Poznań

From Polish club Lech Poznań, which was adopted after a Europa League encounter in 2010, the Poznań has fans face the pitch, turning their backs and bouncing from their sides with their arms around each other.

Key Songs to Know

  • "Blue Moon" – Manchester City anthem for its core
  • "We're Not Really Here" – Self-deprecating humour from City’s darker days
  • "Hey Jude" (City version) – “Na na na na-na-na-na, na-na-na-na, City!”
  • "Wonderwall" – The Oasis classic as a post-match celebration
  • "Oh Erling Haaland" – Dedicated to City’s prolific striker
  • "Pep Guardiola" – A nod to the legendary manager

The 1894 Group

Located in the North Stand, CITY's official supporter organisation, the 1894 Group helps improve the matchday atmosphere. They coordinate flags, banners and songs – if you’re in the North Stand, go along with their efforts for the complete experience.

Iconic Landmarks at the Etihad Campus

The Etihad Campus is more than just a stadium – take time to explore before entering:

The Legends Statues

Three statues honour Manchester City's greatest figures:

  • Colin Bell: “The King of the Kippax” – City’s greatest ever midfielder, whose name graces the West Stand
  • Francis Lee: Prolific striker and later club chairman, instrumental in City’s success
  • David Silva: El Mago – the Spanish magician who transformed City’s playing style over 10 glorious years

The "93:20" Artwork

Look out for tributes to the most famous moment in Manchester City history – Sergio Aguero’s title-winning goal against QPR in 2012. The timestamp 93:20 has become iconic in City folklore.

City Store

One of the largest club shops in the Premier League, located at the stadium. Open on matchdays and throughout the week – essential for picking up the latest City kit.

City Football Academy

Adjacent to the stadium, the CFA is one of the world’s most advanced training facilities. Home to the first team, academy, and women’s team.

National Football Museum

Located in Manchester city centre (not at the Etihad), but worth mentioning for football fans visiting the city. Houses incredible football memorabilia and is free to enter.

Pre-Match Pubs and Food Near the Etihad

The Etihad Campus area has developed significantly but still has fewer traditional pubs than some inner-city grounds. Here are your options:

City Square Fan Zone

Located right outside the stadium, this is the official pre-match gathering spot.

Live entertainment, food trucks and drinks offered. Gets very busy on matchdays but has other City fans around it.

The Mary D

A converted barge on the Ashton Canal about 10 minutes from the stadium. Unique venue with good beer and relaxed pre-match atmosphere.

The Stanley Sports Bar

Located on Ashton New Road, popular with City fans. Shows build-up coverage and has a good matchday buzz.

The Townley

Traditional pub about 15 minutes' walk to the city centre. Less crowded than stadium-adjacent pubs.

Manchester City Centre

Many fans prefer to drink in the city centre (Northern Quarter, Piccadilly) and walk or tram to the stadium. The walk from Piccadilly takes approximately 25-30 minutes.

Tip: there are fewer pubs near the Etihad than at grounds like Anfield or Old Trafford. Consider the official fan zone or city centre options.

Getting to the Etihad Stadium

By Metrolink Tram (Recommended)

The Etihad Campus tram stop is located on the Blue Line, right alongside the stadium. Trams run from Manchester city centre (Piccadilly Gardens, Market Street, Victoria) and take around 10 minutes. This is the easiest and most reliable option.

By Train

Manchester Piccadilly is the nearest mainline station, about 25 minutes’ walk from the stadium. Many fans walk along the Ashton Canal towpath – a pleasant route that avoids traffic.

By Bus

A variety of bus routes serve the stadium area. After the match, buses line up on Ashton New Road by the South Stand heading to Manchester city centre.

By Car

Parking is good at the Etihad Stadium, very close to the ground, unlike many Premier League grounds. Pay-on-the-day parking is available in Blue Car Parks G & H. Traffic during matchdays can be heavy, so allow enough time.

By Bike

Cycle racks are placed throughout the stadium. The Ashton Canal towpath provides an excellent car-free route from the city centre.

On Foot

From Piccadilly: 25-30 minutes via the Ashton Canal towpath (recommended) or along Ashton New Road.

After the Final Whistle

Stay for the celebration:

If City win, the PA system plays “Wonderwall” by Oasis, and the team often acknowledges the fans. It’s worth spending a few more minutes enjoying the moment.

Leaving the stadium:

  • Allow 15-20 minutes for the crowds to disperse
  • Multiple exits – follow steward directions depending on your transport needs
  • The tram station gets very busy – consider walking towards the city centre

Transport tips:

  • Metrolink: Expect queues at the Etihad Campus stop. Consider walking to Holt Town or Velopark stops (10-15 minutes) for less crowded platforms
  • Walking: The canal towpath to Piccadilly is well-lit and takes 25-30 minutes
  • Driving: Allow 30+ minutes to exit car parks and navigate post-match traffic
  • Buses: Line up on Ashton New Road – follow signs for city centre services
