By Bike

South Stand (Away Section)

The largest single-tier stand in English football, the South Stand stretches its entire length on the pitch. This is the section which visiting fans take up in the corner in particular, and is the “home section.”

Atmosphere: Good atmosphere as at heart of the home South Stand is more in the lower block, very close to the Colin Bell Stand. The massive size of the stand can mean sounds, sometimes, can become diffused.

Best for: Fans who want big crowds; people looking for value Tickets; families who want a less charged scene.

Consider if: You’re looking for superb viewlines on a single-tier view, or you’re going with lower-school children who might find the louder stands overwhelming.

View: Back of the goal and really nice unobstructed views because of that single-tier design. The absence of supporting pillars means each seat receives a direct line of sight.

North Stand

The North Stand opposite the South Stand is home to many of Manchester City's most fervent supporters. That's where much of the atmosphere is created at the Etihad.

Atmosphere: The more rowdy seat at the Etihad Stadium. The North Stand is home to 1894 Group – the official fan group of the city’s football team to help uplift the atmosphere at matchday. Songs frequently began from here and then spread around the space.

Best for: Die-hard City fans interested in singing all match, supporters who care more about atmosphere than comfort, those who seek a genuine Etihad atmosphere.

Consider if: You want to cheer on the vocal team and don’t mind staying standing for the most part of a match even though you have a seat.

View: Behind the goal view.

Great for near goal-scoring action with City attacking towards that end (usually second half for big fixtures). For South Stand action, it’s further away.

• Level 1 (Blocks 101 to 110): Strong heart of atmosphere for 1894 Group
• Level 2 (Blocks 201 to 212): Nice atmosphere, much better overall view of the play
• Level 3 (Blocks 301-314): The top tier, panoramic views all over stadium

East Stand

The East Stand lines up along the side of the pitch with superior sideline views. The three-tiered stand features both pitch-side seating and panoramic elevation views.

Liverpool

There isn't much history in this rivalry, but results in the last couple of years created a new rivalry. Liverpool always had a big rivalry with Man United, but the last couple of years Man City and Liverpool fight it out for the title. The 2018-19 season was the best example, when Man City beat Liverpool in the titlerace with 98 points against 97 points. The gap between Liverpool and third placed Chelsea was 25 points. Manchester City’s home ground since 2003, the Etihad Stadium has evolved from the Commonwealth Games location to one of English football’s contemporary venues. On the main campus at Etihad in east Manchester, your matchday there is set with high-end facilities, but with all the passion that comes from the Sky Blue fanbase. When to Arrive

Stadium gates open: 2 hours before kick-off

Recommended arrival times:

• 3+ hrs ahead: Visit and explore the Etihad Campus, City Store, take a picture at the stadium statues, fan zone
• 2 hours before: Go into the stadium while gates are open, take in the concourses, see how the pitch is warming up
• 1 hour before: Arrival is comfortable – grab food and drinks, get your seats, watch warm-ups start
• 30 minutes before: Recommended as of late – get out and witness the team warm-ups and atmosphere building
• 15 minutes before: Absolute minimum - team news on start

Our suggestion: Be at least 90 minutes in advance of kick-off. The Etihad Campus has lots to do and see, and the pre-match buildup is all part of the experience.

Located on Ashton New Road, popular with City fans. Shows build-up coverage and has a good matchday buzz.

The Townley

Traditional pub about 15 minutes' walk to the city centre. Less crowded than stadium-adjacent pubs.

Manchester City Centre

Many fans prefer to drink in the city centre (Northern Quarter, Piccadilly) and walk or tram to the stadium. The walk from Piccadilly takes approximately 25-30 minutes.

Tip: there are fewer pubs near the Etihad than at grounds like Anfield or Old Trafford. Consider the official fan zone or city centre options.

Getting to the Etihad Stadium

By Metrolink Tram (Recommended)

The Etihad Campus tram stop is located on the Blue Line, right alongside the stadium. Trams run from Manchester city centre (Piccadilly Gardens, Market Street, Victoria) and take around 10 minutes. This is the easiest and most reliable option.

By Train

Manchester Piccadilly is the nearest mainline station, about 25 minutes’ walk from the stadium. Many fans walk along the Ashton Canal towpath – a pleasant route that avoids traffic.
