Champions League: Chelsea 2-0 Galata (3-1) | Real 3-1 Schalke (9-2)

Chelsea 2-0 Galatasaray (Agg 3-1)

Chelsea eased into the Champions League quarter-finals following a more-comfortable-than-expected win against Galatasaray at Stamford Bridge last night.

Samuel Eto’o opened the scoring sheet just four minutes into the game when he fired low under Galatasaray keeper, Fernando Muslera, after a great Oscar assist.

The Blues doubled their advantage just three minutes before the break through Gary Cahill who slotted home the rebound after Muslera saved Terry’s header from a Lampard corner kick.

It was a very special night for former Chelsea star, Didier Drogba who did a lap of honor before the kick-off.

Chelsea fans saluted the Ivorian from the stands but were even happier to see their side progress into the next round.

Real Madrid 3-1 FC Schalke 04 (Agg 9-2)

Cristiano Ronaldo grabbed a double in the second leg of the Champions League Round of 16 between Real Madrid and Schalke to take his tally up to 13 in the European competition and help Los Blancos win 9-2 on aggregate.

Having already won 6-1 in the first leg a fortnight ago Real finished off the job in style at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.

Ronaldo scored the first goal of the match from close range following a Gareth Bale cross from the right side.

The Welsh started the game on the bench but was introduced just after 5 minutes of the kick-off to replace Jese who had to leave the pitch with a knee injury.

Tim Hoogland levelled for the Germans when his shot from outside the box was deflected by Sergio Ramos sending Casillas the wrong way.

Cristiano restored the lead for Madrid after the half-time with a powerful shot and almost made a hat-trick two minutes later but this time he found the cross-bar. But Gareth Bale grabbed the rebound and served Morata for the third.
