Stadium information
Name:
WWK Arena
Capacity:
30,660
Address:
Bürgermeister-Ulrich-Straße 90, 86199 Augsburg, Germany
Description:
The WWK Arena opened in July 2009 and replaced the old Rosenaustadion, which had been the home of FC Augsburg for decades. The new stadium was built on the south side of the city and holds 30.660 spectators. Not only is it one of the most modern stadiums in the Bundesliga, also the compact and steep design of the WWK Arena creates a very good atmosphere on matchdays. The four stands bring the supporters very close to the pitch, and when the stadium is sold out you will feel the noise from all sides at the same time. Also the green open spaces around the stadium give the approach from the city a very pleasant feel on a matchday afternoon. On the bigger Bundesliga fixtures, the WWK Arena becomes one of the loudest compact stadiums in German football.
Best way to travel to the WWK Arena
When you’ve booked your FC Augsburg tickets it’s time to find out how you can get to the stadium. The WWK Arena is located on the south side of Augsburg, around 4 kilometres from the city centre. The club recommends public transport on matchdays. These are the options you have to get to the WWK Arena.
By Tram
The tram is the most direct way to reach the WWK Arena. Lines 2 and 3 both stop directly at the Augsburg Arena halt, which is right in front of the main stadium entrance. From Augsburg Hauptbahnhof the journey by tram takes around 15 minutes. On matchdays the trams run with extra frequency and you will find them busy with Augsburg supporters from the city centre onwards. Also the ride through the city to the ground is already a very nice part of the matchday experience. Not only do the regular services run more often, also extra trams are added after the final whistle to handle the large number of supporters leaving the WWK Arena at the same time.
By Train
Augsburg Hauptbahnhof is very well connected by rail. From Munich it is around 30 minutes by ICE or regional express to Augsburg. From Stuttgart the journey takes around 1 hour and 30 minutes. Also from Nuremberg, Ingolstadt and other Bavarian cities, Augsburg is reachable by direct train in a comfortable time. From Hauptbahnhof you then take the tram as described above. On matchdays you will find extra train services on the schedule from Munich in particular, where many Augsburg supporters and also visiting fans travel from.
By Car
The WWK Arena sits very close to the A8 motorway that runs between Munich and Stuttgart. The exit Augsburg-Süd brings you very close to the stadium. Several large car parks are available in the area around the ground. On matchdays you need to count on some traffic near the stadium in the 45 minutes before kick-off. Also the journey out after the final whistle can take some time when the WWK Arena is sold out. When you are coming from Munich or Stuttgart by car, the combination of train to Augsburg and then tram is often faster and more relaxed than driving to the stadium.
By Bicycle
From Augsburg city centre the WWK Arena is reachable by bicycle in around 20 minutes. The southern part of the city has good cycling infrastructure and the approach to the stadium by bicycle is straightforward. Bicycle parking you will find in good numbers around the stadium on matchdays. Not only do you avoid all the matchday traffic by cycling, also the ride back after the match through the quiet southern residential streets is a very relaxed way to end a matchday. Also from some of the surrounding villages to the south of Augsburg, the cycling distance to the WWK Arena is very manageable.
WWK Arena guide
The WWK Arena has four stands. The steep and compact design brings supporters very close to the pitch from every position. The 30.660 places are divided between the Haupttribüne, the Osttribüne, the Nordkurve and the Südkurve.
Haupttribüne (Main Stand)
The Haupttribüne is the main covered stand of the WWK Arena, running along the west side of the pitch. This is where you will find the press area, the VIP boxes and the most comfortable seating in the whole stadium. The roof gives good protection from the weather, which in Augsburg can change very fast between seasons. From the Haupttribüne you will have a very good view along the full length of the pitch. It is a bit more about comfort here compared to the standing sections, but on a big matchday you will still feel the full noise from the Nordkurve and Osttribüne coming at you from the other sides of the stadium.
Osttribüne (East Stand)
On the opposite site of the Haupttribüne, you will find the Osttribüne. Also this stand gives a very good view along the full length of the pitch. It is more affordable than the main stand and is a popular choice for regular supporters who want a reliable seat at a fair price. From the Osttribüne you will have a full overview of the Haupttribüne across the pitch and both end stands to your left and right. Also this is a very good first choice for people visiting the WWK Arena for the first time who want to take in the full picture of the stadium from a central and comfortable position.
Nordkurve (North Stand)
The Nordkurve is where you will find the most passionate FC Augsburg supporters. The ultras and the most active home fans take seat in the standing section of the Nordkurve, where the atmosphere is more intense than anywhere else in the WWK Arena. The singing starts from the very first minute. When Augsburg score, you will feel the Nordkurve lift the whole stadium in a way that is very immediate and very loud. Also this stand is where the visual choreographies come from on the biggest matchdays. Not only does the Nordkurve create the atmosphere, also it sets the tone for the whole ground from the moment the teams walk out.
Südkurve (South Stand)
On the opposite site of the Nordkurve, you will find the Südkurve. Also this stand has strong home support in the main sections, with the away fans placed in a clearly separated block at one side of the stand. The Südkurve is a good option for supporters who want to be in the end stands without being in the most intense part of the stadium. From the Südkurve you will get a very good view across the full pitch and of both the Haupttribüne and the Osttribüne. Also on the biggest Bundesliga matchdays you will feel the atmosphere from the Nordkurve very clearly from this position.
Which stand should you choose?
Not every stand gives you the same experience at the WWK Arena. We made this table so you can compare all four stands in one quick look. Check what matters to you and you will find the right stand.

|---|---|---|
| Best atmosphere | Nordkurve Standing | Ultras section, loudest part of the stadium |

Club history
FC Augsburg was founded in 1907 in the city of Augsburg in Swabia, the south-west part of Bavaria. For the first century of their existence, the club played mostly in the regional and second divisions of German football. The Bundesliga started in 1963. Augsburg were not part of it. For many decades they stayed below the top flight. The people of Augsburg followed their club through these years with great loyalty. Then things changed. In the 2010-11 season FC Augsburg won promotion to the Bundesliga for the very first time in their history. What happened next was something nobody had really expected. They stayed. Season after season, they survived. Not only did they survive, also they qualified for the Europa League in the 2015-16 season, the first ever European campaign in the club’s history. The 2025-26 season was another solid Bundesliga campaign. Sandro Wagner started the season as head coach, but in December 2025 he left the club and Manuel Baum took over. Baum, who had already been head coach of Augsburg between 2016 and 2019, guided the team to a 9th place finish. Not only was this a very good position for a club like Augsburg, also it confirmed once more that this club belongs in the Bundesliga. On 23 August 2025, Augsburg had already shown what they were capable of, winning 3-1 away at SC Freiburg on the very first matchday of the season.
German influences
FC Augsburg has a very strong connection to the city and region of Augsburg. The city itself is one of the oldest in Germany, with roots going back to the Roman settlement of Augusta Vindelicorum in 15 BC. In the 16th century, Augsburg became the financial capital of Europe thanks to the Fugger family, the most powerful banking dynasty of the Renaissance. The club carries this heritage with pride. The nickname “Die Fuggerstädter” is a direct reference to the Fugger family and to the city’s long and proud history. Not only is the club deeply connected to its Swabian identity, also the supporter culture at the WWK Arena is something that has grown very fast since the Bundesliga promotion in 2011. Captain Jeffrey Gouweleeuw, who has been at the club for many years and has been captain for a long time, represents the loyalty and fighting spirit that Augsburg supporters always expect from their team. When you come to the WWK Arena for a match, you will feel quite fast that this is a very passionate and very proud football city.

Rivalries
Main Rivals
Bavarian Derby against FC Bayern München
For FC Augsburg supporters, the Bundesliga match against FC Bayern München carries a very special meaning. Both clubs come from Bavaria and the 70-kilometre distance between the two cities makes this a very clear regional derby. The difference in size and budget between the two clubs is very large, but that is exactly what makes the Augsburg perspective on this fixture so interesting. When FC Augsburg beat Bayern, it is one of the most celebrated results of the whole season. Not only does every Bayern fan in Germany follow this match, also the whole city of Augsburg comes alive in a way that is very different to a normal home game. When you come to the WWK Arena for a match against Bayern München, you will feel a very different kind of atmosphere from the very first minute.
Minor Rivalries
Rivalry with SpVgg Greuther Fürth
The rivalry with SpVgg Greuther Fürth is another important one for Augsburg supporters. Both clubs come from Bavaria and they have met in the Bundesliga and the lower divisions on several occasions. When the two clubs are in the same division, the fixture carries a clear regional pride for both sets of supporters. Not only is there a sporting competition, also the shared Bavarian identity of two clubs who are often fighting for similar positions in the table makes these matches more than just a regular Bundesliga fixture.
