Estrela Amadora, also known as C.F. Estrela da Amadora or Clube de Futebol Estrela da Amadora, competes at their home stadium or ground, Estádio José Gomes, in Amadora. Nicknamed Os Tricolor, Estrela was founded in 1932. Top tier Estrela plays in the highest division soccer league in Portugal - Liga Sagres. Sixteen football teams are members of the Portuguese Leagues’ top division Liga Sagres, also known as Portuguese Liga, or BWINLIGA. Each of the Liga Sagres teams plays all other teams twice, once at home and once away. Estrela competes in Europe under UEFA for the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Cup, UEFA Intertoto Cup, European Super Cup and potentially the FIFA Club World Cup. Estrela won the Portugese Cup in 1990. Estrela ranked 7th in the 2008-2009 Portuguese Liga season.
