EURO 2016 GROUP STAGE RESULTS

Ireland beat Italy on Wednesday and will next play hosts France in the last 16, with Ireland manager Martin O'Neill in charge. "We need a performance like tonight again to stand a chance," said O'Neill after his side's 1-0 victory over Italy in their final Group E game sending Ireland through to the knockout stages of a European Championship for the first time. "If we can recover in time, we want to play as strongly as we did tonight."

Iceland 2-1 Austria. Tournament debutants Iceland sealed their place in the last 16 after a stoppage time winner. Hungary 3-3 Portugal. Nani scored the opening goal for Portugal and Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice in an exciting final group game, with both sides heading into the tournament’s last 16. Italy 0-1 Republic of Ireland. Ireland’s Robbie Brady headed home a late winner to send Martin O’Neil’s Ireland side through to the last 16. Sweden 0-1 Belgium. Radja Nainggolan scored the winner to put his side through to Nice.

Hungary 3-3 Portugal: Euro 2016. Two goals from Cristiano Ronaldo and one from Nani against Hungary sent Portugal through to Euro 2016 Last 16 on Wednesday alongside Group F winners Hungary after an amazing, exciting game at Stade des Lumieres in Lyon, France.

Hungary 3: Goals by Zoltan Gera 19, Balazs Dzsudzsak 47, Balazs Dzsudzsak 55
Portugal 3: Goals by Luis Nani 42, Cristiano Ronaldo 50, 62

“We draw together, we miss penalties together, today we win together,” is the motto for the Portugal side.

Hungary won first place Group F after Real Madrid and Portugal superstar striker Cristiano Ronaldo played his heart out in Lyon, fighting to score goals to ensure qualification in the Last 16 after Nani opened the scoring against Bernd Storck’s scrappy Hungary side.

Ronaldo did not disappoint his Portugal fans and scored two goals only one match after setting a new appearance record for Portugal becoming the first player to score in four European Championships. CR7 set a tournament appearance record of 17 on Wednesday.

“A forward like Cristiano without goals feels like he hasn’t had anything to eat,” said Ronaldo’s Portugal coach, Fernando Santos. “We were on the way home three times”.
