Capital One Cup: Manchester City 6-0 West Ham

Manchester City annihilated West Ham in the first leg of their Capital One Cup semi-final, beating the Londoners 6-0 at the Etihad Stadium. Having been beaten 5-0 by Championship side Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup third-round last Sunday, Sam Allardyce's team suffered another cup thrashing here, and the fans vented their fury at the team and manager towards the end of the match.

Alvaro Negredo scored a hat-trick in a fine display of skill and attack. His first, in the 12th minute, was a sublime left-footed volley that rocketed past Hammers keeper Adrian. He put City two up in the 26th minute, collecting a pass from Edin Dzeko and his shot finding the back of the net again. Yaya Toure grabbed a third five minutes before half-time to essentially seal the win.

Four minutes after the restart, David Silva found his shot half-blocked, and Negredo collected the rebound and completed his treble. Edin Dzeko made it 5-0 on the hour mark, turning in a cross supplied by Silva at the near post. The West ham fans had been encouraging until that point, but the fifth goal saw the visiting crowd start to turn on the unlucky West Ham manager. Dzeko grabbed City's sixth goal with a minute left to play, belting in a cross from Aleksandar Kolarov. If it wasn't for some fine keeping from Adrian, City would have had more goals, but as it is, the second-leg is now a formality.
