Man United's winning streak ends

A dramatic Tuesday night in the Premier League saw Chelsea squander a 2-0 lead against Leeds, Manchester United's four-match winning run come to an end at West Ham, and Tottenham slump to a worrying defeat against Newcastle that leaves them in 16th place.

Chelsea 2-2 Leeds United: Palmer's incredible miss costs Blues dear

Chelsea threw away two valuable points at Stamford Bridge after letting a commanding 2-0 lead slip against Leeds United.

Cole Palmer was at the centre of everything for the Blues – for better and worse. The England international produced a sublime assist for the opener, finding space between the lines before threading a perfect pass to João Pedro. The Brazilian striker finished with an exquisite lob to make it 1-0.

Palmer doubled Chelsea's advantage from the penalty spot after the break, and at 2-0 the hosts appeared to be cruising to victory. But Leeds had other ideas.

The visitors were awarded a penalty of their own following a foul by Moises Caicedo, and Felix Nmecha converted to halve the deficit. Just ten minutes later, Leeds were level. Noah Okafor bundled home from close range in a scramble that saw the ball appear to strike Jayden Bogle's hand. Despite protests from Chelsea players, neither the referee nor VAR intervened.

Chelsea pushed desperately for a winner in the closing stages. Pedro Neto and João Pedro both went close, but the biggest chance fell to Palmer. From just three yards out, the midfielder blazed the ball hopelessly over the crossbar – a miss that will haunt him given its potential impact on the title race.

Jorrel Hato came off the bench at half-time to replace Marc Cucurella and played the entire second half for Chelsea.

The dropped points are a significant blow to Chelsea's top-four hopes, with the Blues remaining fifth on 44 points.

West Ham 1-1 Manchester United: Carrick's winning run ends

Manchester United's remarkable four-match winning streak under interim manager Michael Carrick came to an end as they were held to a 1-1 draw at West Ham United.

The result means United have now won four and drawn one since Carrick replaced the sacked Rúben Amorim, but it could have been so much better for the visitors.

A cagey first half saw few clear chances, with Crysencio Summerville – who has been in sensational form for the Hammers – forcing a save from United goalkeeper Senne Lammens, while Luke Shaw saw his header cleared off the line from a corner.

West Ham broke the deadlock shortly after half-time. Tomáš Souček arrived unmarked in the United penalty area and prodded the ball past Lammens to send the home crowd into raptures.

United thought they had equalised when Casemiro turned in a cross, but the Brazilian was flagged offside in the build-up. Carrick introduced Joshua Zirkzee from the bench in search of a goal, and the Dutchman almost delivered immediately with a header that flashed across goal.

Benjamin Sesko eventually rescued a point for United deep into stoppage time, continuing his habit of scoring crucial late goals. However, there was no time for the visitors to find a winner.

The draw means a certain Manchester United fan named Frank Ilett will have to wait even longer for his haircut. The supporter famously vowed not to visit the barber until United won five consecutive matches – a streak that ended at four. He has now been waiting almost 500 days, and will have to wait until at least March 20 for another opportunity.

United remain fourth on 45 points, while West Ham stay 18th on 24 points but earned a valuable point in their relegation battle.

Tottenham 1-2 Newcastle: Spurs drop to 16th after eighth winless game of 2026

Tottenham Hotspur's dismal 2026 continued as they slumped to a 1-2 home defeat against Newcastle United, leaving them in 16th place in the Premier League.

The loss means Spurs have now failed to win any of their eight league matches this calendar year – a run that has seen them plummet down the table and into genuine relegation danger.

With Cristian Romero suspended following his red card against Manchester United, Micky van de Ven wore the captain's armband for Tottenham. Fellow Dutchman Xavi Simons also started, while Sven Botman lined up for Newcastle.

The visitors dominated the first half, with Joe Willock, Jacob Ramsey and Harvey Barnes all going close. Spurs were barely able to get out of their own half, with Simons their only outlet – the midfielder saw one effort drift wide and another blocked.

Tottenham's injury crisis deepened when Wilson Odobert was forced off with a knee injury after just 30 minutes, replaced by Mathys Tel.

Newcastle thought they had taken the lead through Willock, who beat Van de Ven before finishing into the far corner. However, VAR intervened to rule the goal out for offside. The reprieve was short-lived – Malick Thiaw headed against the crossbar from a corner, and the German defender reacted quickest to nod in the rebound for 1-0.

Spurs improved after half-time and drew level through Archie Gray, who tapped in after Simons had headed a corner back across goal. But Newcastle restored their lead just four minutes later when Jacob Ramsey slotted home following good work from Anthony Gordon.

Despite late efforts from Dominic Solanke (acrobatic overhead kick blocked) and Van de Ven (shot over), Tottenham could not find an equaliser. The result leaves them just three points above the relegation zone.
