Liverpool suffer shock defeat at Bournemouth

Saturday's Premier League action delivered drama across England as Liverpool's unbeaten run ended in heartbreaking fashion, Manchester City closed the gap on leaders Arsenal, and Tottenham were held by struggling Burnley.

Bournemouth 3-2 Liverpool: Slot's men stunned in stoppage time

Liverpool suffered their first defeat of 2026 after conceding a 95th-minute winner at the Vitality Stadium. The result ends a run that stretched back to PSV's 4-1 victory at Anfield in the Champions League on November 26.

Arne Slot's side were completely outplayed in the first half, with Bournemouth's low block causing the same problems Liverpool faced against Leeds and Fulham in recent weeks. The hosts took full advantage, with Evanilson opening the scoring on 26 minutes after Virgil van Dijk switched off from a long ball. Alejandro Jiménez doubled the lead seven minutes later following a swift counter-attack.

Van Dijk made amends before half-time, heading home from a corner to give Liverpool hope. The Reds improved after the break and looked to have salvaged a point when Dominik Szoboszlai curled a free-kick into the far corner with eight minutes remaining.

However, Bournemouth had the final word. Deep into stoppage time, Liverpool failed to clear a throw-in and goalkeeper Alisson fumbled twice before Amine Adli lifted the ball into the net to spark wild celebrations among the 11,000 home supporters.

The defeat leaves Liverpool vulnerable to being overtaken in fourth place by Manchester United or Chelsea, who both play on Sunday.

Manchester City 2-0 Wolverhampton: Marmoush and Semenyo secure comfortable win

Manchester City closed the gap on Arsenal to four points with a professional victory over bottom club Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Etihad Stadium.

Omar Marmoush set the tone early, firing City ahead after just six minutes following a clever assist from Matheus Nunes. The Egyptian forward continues to impress since his January move.

Antoine Semenyo, who arrived from Bournemouth for £72 million this winter, doubled the advantage just before half-time. The goal was his third since joining the champions, further justifying Pep Guardiola's hefty investment.

Wolves offered little resistance throughout, failing to create any clear-cut chances as their relegation fears deepen. The visitors remain rooted to the bottom of the table, and Burnley's draw against Tottenham means the gap to safety continues to grow.

Guardiola rested several key players with one eye on upcoming fixtures. Tijjani Reijnders started in midfield before making way for Phil Foden on the hour mark, while Erling Haaland was only introduced with 15 minutes remaining. Nathan Aké remained an unused substitute.

Former FC Groningen striker Jørgen Strand Larsen came on for Wolves in the second half. The Norwegian continues to be linked with several Premier League clubs despite his side's struggles.

Burnley 2-2 Tottenham: Late Romero header denies Clarets vital win

Tottenham Hotspur needed a 90th-minute equaliser from Cristian Romero to rescue a point at Turf Moor against relegation-threatened Burnley.

Dutch defender Micky van de Ven gave Spurs the lead on 38 minutes, scoring his fourth goal of the season. However, the advantage lasted just seven minutes as Axel Tuanzebe equalised for the Clarets, with the assist coming from former Tottenham defender Kyle Walker – a moment that will not have gone unnoticed by the travelling supporters.

Burnley looked set to claim a massive three points when Lyle Foster fired home on 76 minutes, sending Turf Moor into raptures. But Romero had other ideas, heading in an equaliser in the final minute of normal time to deny the hosts.

Xavi Simons and Van de Ven both completed 90 minutes for Tottenham, while Quilindschy Hartman was again absent from the squad amid rumours of a move to Beşiktaş.

The draw leaves Spurs in 14th place, though several clubs have games in hand. Burnley remain 19th and in the relegation zone, with Vincent Kompany's side struggling to find consistency.

What's next?

Sunday's fixtures could reshape the top four. Leaders Arsenal host Manchester United in a blockbuster clash at the Emirates Stadium, while Chelsea travel to Crystal Palace looking to leapfrog Liverpool.

At the bottom, Wolves will be watching anxiously as fellow strugglers look to pull clear of danger.
