EFL Cup finalists

Manchester City strolled into the EFL Cup final by beating Burton 0-1 away. The reserve fixture at the Etihad ended 9-0 which all but ended the tie and the second leg was just a formality. Considering that this was a semifinal, it is quite impressive that City could destroy Burton by such a huge margin. Even though Burton are a League one side, they still made it to the semifinals, albeit they only had to play one Premier League side which was Burnley, when they were in a bad run of from.

Man City have won the EFL Cup two out of the last three season and will be looking to make it 3. Guardiola loves to win a trophy no matter what competition it is in. He fielded a strong side against Burton in the second leg which shows that he takes this competition seriously. City want to win all four trophies this season, which will be a difficult task, but it is a possibility. Their squad is one of the strongest in Europe and they are very well positioned in all four competitions.

Chelsea are the other team in the final and had to beat Tottenham on penalties in the semifinal. The first leg ended 1-0 for Spurs, with the second leg being played yesterday. Chelsea were very dominant in the first half and were leading 2-0, however, Spurs came out strong in the second half and got a goal back through Llorente. Regular time ended at 2-1 with the aggregate score at 2-2, usually Spurs would have gone through on away goals, but the EFL Cup has introduced a new rule that disregards the away goal rule and the game goes straight to penalties if there is an aggregate draw. Chelsea were victorious on penalties with Dier and Lucas missing for Tottenham.

The final of the cup will be on the 24th of February at Wembley. Both teams have won the competition 5 times and will be looking to make it 6. Chelsea have already beaten City this season in the Premier League 2-0 and will be hoping that they can repeat that score line.
