Premiership: Sunderland 0-1 Man Utd | Man City 4-0 Newcastle

Sunderland 0-1 Manchester United

Sunderland slumped to an eighth league game in a row without a win thanks to a farcical own goal by Titus Bramble. And unfortunately for Black Cats' boss Martin O'Neill, it was a goal that cost him his job. The winner came in the first half, when a Robin van Persie shot flew into the net after taking a big deflection of Bramble's knee. It could have been worse of the home side, but for a superb stoppage time save from Simon Mignolet.

Manchester City 4-0 Newcastle United

Manchester City showed their true class by dominating this match from the kick off to the final whistle. Goals from Carlos Tevez and David Silva gave the home team a richly deserved lead going into half time. Vincent Kompany and Yaya Toure scored fantastic goals of their own to take all three points at the Etihad Stadium.Although Newcastle United were way below par, they were missing several first-team regulars, including Cheick Tiote, Fabriccio Coloccini, Hatem Ben Arfa and goalkeeper Tim Krul. Manchester City have consolidated their position in second place in the Premier League, but they still remain some way behind local rivals United.
