With the international break now well and truly behind us, Europe's top leagues continued in fine form over the weekend, with high-scoring games, a record-equalling run, and even a Harry Kane milestone. Here, we'll run you through the key fixtures from the weekend.
Bayern Munich secure victory as Díaz steals the show
Bayern Munich continued their fine form over the weekend with an emphatic win over RB Leipzig. The game finished 6-1 in a contest that was more reminiscent of a training-ground exercise than a top-of-the-table Bundesliga clash. Goals from Aleksandar Pavlović, Michael Olise, and Harry Kane, who scored his 102nd Bundesliga goal in his 100th appearance, the most by any player in the league's history after a century of games, were enough to secure the victory. However, it was Luis Díaz who stole the show. The Colombian winger put in a sterling performance against Leipzig, tormenting their defenders for 90 minutes and bagging a hat-trick. Andrija Maksimović's stoppage-time goal was nothing more than a consolation for the visitors, and with Borussia Dortmund held to a goalless draw at Union Berlin, Vincent Kompany's side head into their Champions League clash with Arsenal back at the top of the table.
Barcelona match La Liga's best-ever start
Barcelona's perfect start to the season continued over the weekend after a fiery 5-2 win away at third-placed Real Betis. Lamine Yamal set the tone with a brilliant opener in the 10th minute, and although Valentín Gómez levelled for Betis, Rodri's first goal for the club restored the lead before half-time. Yamal then set up Gabriel Jesus for the third, and while Abde Ezzalzouli pulled one back, Betis' hopes were dashed moments later when Facundo Bernal was sent off for tangling with Yamal. Goals from Eric García and Dani Olmo rounded off the victory, which equals the record of nine straight wins to start a La Liga season, set by Real Madrid back in 1968-69. Hansi Flick hailed Yamal as the best player in the world after the game, and his side now sit five points clear at the top.
Real Madrid warm up for El Clásico in style
Real Madrid continued their good run of form on Sunday, beating Sevilla 4-1 at the Bernabéu. A curling strike from Arda Güler and a brilliant brace from Kylian Mbappé, including a Panenka penalty, were enough to knock the stuffing out of Sevilla. Manu Bueno scored a late consolation for the visitors, but Yan Diomande fired home soon after to wrap up the win. Madrid did it all without Vinícius Júnior, who served the first of a four-game ban for pulling the hair of Villarreal's Nathan Saliba. Next weekend's trip to the Camp Nou seems to have come at a good time for them.
