Arsenal reclaim three-point lead
Arsenal are back in control of the title race after beating Newcastle 1-0, while Liverpool took a huge step towards Champions League qualification with a 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace. Tottenham finally won a Premier League match in 2026 – but celebrations were muted after Xavi Simons was stretchered off with a potentially serious knee injury that could end his World Cup hopes.
Arsenal 1-0 Newcastle: Title race back on track
Arsenal responded to their recent wobble with a vital 1-0 victory over Newcastle United at the Emirates Stadium.
Newcastle started brightly and created two early chances, but it was Arsenal who struck first. Eberechi Eze collected the ball just outside the penalty area on 10 minutes and unleashed a stunning strike into the top corner. The Emirates erupted.
The victory came at a cost. Kai Havertz limped off injured and was replaced by Viktor Gyökeres. Then Eze himself had to be substituted, with Gabriel Martinelli coming on. The injury list continues to grow for Mikel Arteta.
There was drama late on when goalkeeper Nick Pope came rushing out and completely missed the ball, fouling Gyökeres outside the box. The Newcastle keeper escaped with just a yellow card, much to Arsenal's frustration.
Seven minutes of stoppage time followed, with Bukayo Saka making a late cameo. Arsenal held on for a crucial three points.
Arsenal are now three points clear of Manchester City, though City have a game in hand and reached the FA Cup final this weekend.

Liverpool 3-1 Crystal Palace: Salah injury clouds victory
Liverpool took a giant stride towards Champions League qualification with a 3-1 win over Crystal Palace at Anfield. But the celebrations were tempered by a potentially serious hamstring injury to Mohamed Salah.
On a sun-drenched afternoon, Aleksander Isak opened the scoring in the 35th minute – his first goal since December 20. The Swedish striker's mishit volley bounced over goalkeeper Dean Henderson.
Five minutes later, Andy Robertson doubled the lead with a clinical finish into the far corner. The 32-year-old Scot, in his final season at Anfield, gave the home fans a moment to cherish.
Then came the moment of concern. After an hour, Mohamed Salah went down clutching his hamstring. The departing superstar took extra time to acknowledge the fans as he left the pitch, his future uncertain.
"Again a win and again an injury. It's the story of our season," said Arne Slot. "It's too early to say anything, but we know how difficult it is for Mo to leave the field like that."
Palace pulled one back in controversial circumstances. Goalkeeper Frederick Woodman was injured and lay on the ground, but the referee didn't stop play. Daniel Muñoz fired into the empty net to make it 2-1, sparking fury from Liverpool players – Florian Wirtz was particularly angry.
Palace almost equalised when Jørgen Strand Larsen hit the inside of the post, the ball agonisingly rolling along the line without crossing.
Wirtz had the final word, hammering a stunning 96th-minute volley into the top corner to seal the 3-1 win.
Liverpool climb to fourth, eight points clear of sixth-placed Brighton with four matches remaining. Next up: a huge clash with Manchester United.
Wolves 0-1 Tottenham: First win of 2026 but Simons stretchered off
Tottenham Hotspur finally won a Premier League match in 2026 – but the victory at Wolverhampton Wanderers was overshadowed by a potentially devastating injury to Xavi Simons.
The Dutch international went down after a challenge with former Feyenoord player Hugo Bueno early in the second half. Simons screamed in pain and was carried off on a stretcher. His reaction suggested a serious knee injury that could rule him out of this summer's World Cup with the Netherlands.
Dominic Solanke had already limped off earlier in the match, adding to Tottenham's injury concerns.
Despite the setbacks, Spurs found a winner in the final minutes. A corner led to a scramble in the box, and Richarlison managed to find João Palhinha on the edge of offside. The Portuguese midfielder fired home to spark jubilant scenes – Tottenham's first Premier League victory since December 28, 2025.
But the joy was short-lived. West Ham also won on Saturday, meaning Tottenham remain in the relegation zone despite their three points.
